Green Tārā and the Fourth Lakṣaṇa - a new piece of writing by Sangharakshita

From Community Highlights on Wed, 10 Jan, 2018 - 12:15

Composed during the latter part of December and completed on New Year’s Day 2018, the starting point here is the four sādhanas (sādhana is a visualisation of a Buddha or Bodhisattva figure) Sangharakshita received from one of his teachers, Jamyang Khyentse Rimpoche: Mañjughoṣa, Avalokiteśvara, Vajrapāṇi, and Green Tārā, and their ‘correspondence’ (in the hermetic sense) with the lakṣaṇas, the samādhis, and the vimokṣas leading to a series of reflections on the Path of...

Meditation is .....

From Coogee Buddhist Group on Mon, 8 Jan, 2018 - 20:42

To Meditate is to stop, be present and acknowledge gently and fully what is going on. And then to turn the mind, supported by kindness towards the object you have chosen whether it be one’s breath, kindness or anything else.

By doing this we gradually create a mind imbued with those qualities: friendliness, spaciousness, calm, attentiveness …….

I hope you can join us for meditation this week:

Jamyang Khyentse Rimpoche was an old man at the time, and did not have much longer to live, but on 24 October 1957, despite failing health, he initiated me into the Mañjughoṣa Stuti sādhana. As his name indicated, he was an embodiment of Mañjughoṣa (Jamyang), the Bodhisattva of Transcendental Wisdom, and friends had urged me to ask him to initiate me into the sādhana of the bodhisattva. It would be a source of...

Embracing the Winter of Things
Sundays, January 7 - February 25, 9.30am-12pm

This Sunday we launch a new series for January and February: Embracing the Winter of Things. The depths of winter create a context for us to sit still and just be with the passage of the seasons, accepting endings and considering new beginnings.

Join us for meditation and the first in an eight-week series of exploration into how we can find beauty through paying attention to impermanence and the nature of things....

The Breeze of the Dharma

From Coogee Buddhist Group on Tue, 2 Jan, 2018 - 01:42

It was one of those really hot, humid days we’ve been having lately. I was sitting somewhere experiencing the oppression of it when a gentle, cool breeze blew in.

It was beautiful: an elixir. A cool breeze can revivify, uplift one’s spirits and give us the encouragement to carry on.
Or, it can just bring sweet and very welcome relief …….

And it reminded me of the parable of the rain cloud which The Buddha used to describe the...

Triratna in Italian, for just £265

From Triratna News on Mon, 25 Dec, 2017 - 16:48

So far there isn’t a single Triratna book in Italian but you can easily change that. Mitra Val Cartei is translating Who is the Buddha? into Italian. She just needs the last £265 to make it happen. (That’s €333 or US$ 354.)

Born and brought up in Italy, Val is a mitra training for ordination in Brighton, UK. She’s a published author in both English and Italian, now working with Triratna’s Translations Board, who say she is enthusiastic, inspired...
