Letter from the Chair of the College of Public Preceptors to all Order Members

From Adhisthana Kula on Fri, 31 Mar, 2017 - 23:56

Following the March meeting of the College of Public Preceptors, Saddhaloka, as Chair of the College, sent a message to all Order members. The ten-day meeting had been concerned with issues currently being raised regarding the Triratna Buddhist Order and Community, and Saddhaloka wanted to communicate the position of the College on these issues. We are now posting the letter, slightly adapted for a wider readership, on the Adhisthana Kula blog, to make it available to all who are interested. The Kula will be continuing...

News from Triratna's Spanish Translations Board

From Triratna News on Wed, 29 Mar, 2017 - 13:05

Nagapriya writes from Mexico about the work of Triratna’s Spanish Translations Board.

“The translation into Spanish of Urgyen Sangharakshita’s work and that of other Triratna writers, began in the early 1990s with the prodigious efforts of a Mexican (ex-) Order member then known as Shuddhavajra. Shuddhavajra did much pioneering work, including founding the publishing house Tres Joyas (Three Jewels) and beginning the difficult task of creating a Dharmic vocabulary in Spanish. Unfortunately Tres Joyas no longer continues but in recent years, the ...

Photos From Jyotipala's Public Re-Ordination at Padmaloka

From Padmaloka Retreat Centre on Wed, 29 Mar, 2017 - 12:49

Having been Ordained originally on the first ever long retreat held at Padmaloka in August 1976 by Sangharakshita, Jyotipala was publicly re-Ordained by Padmavajra yesterday here at Padmaloka.
The day started shrouded in mist, but as preparations got under way, the sun burst through, blessing us with it’s presence until the end.
Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate this joyous occasion,...

Ordination at Padmaloka

From Triratna News on Wed, 29 Mar, 2017 - 09:12

Ordination at Padmaloka

From Triratna News on Wed, 29 Mar, 2017 - 09:12

We are delighted to announce that on Tuesday March 28th at 2.30pm Jyotipala was publicly ordained at Padmaloka Retreat Centre, UK.

Jyotipala means ‘He who protects the light’.

His public ordination was performed by Padmavajra.

With metta,
Manjusiha

This ordination marks Jyotipala’s re-entry into the Order. Jyotipala was the first person to be ordained at Padmaloka in 1976 - with Sangharakshita as private preceptor. Sometime in the mid to late nineties, Jyotipala resigned from the Order. Unusually, he was not privately ordained...

A Garden of Impressions

From Coogee Buddhist Group on Tue, 28 Mar, 2017 - 00:42

In Men’s study at the Sydney Buddhist Centre we’re exploring a book titled ‘Finding the Mind’ by one of our order members by the name of Ratnaprabha.

He takes up the central quest of Buddhism to know and understand the mind. Mind is seen as key if we are to have a happy and fulfilling life. In fact the seminal and very early text ‘The Dhammapada’ starts by saying that every experience we have of life is determined by the...

A Breath of Fresh Air

From Croydon Buddhist Centre on Mon, 27 Mar, 2017 - 16:43

Spring is certainly in the air this week, the sunshine is filling up our new shrine room and reception space. The builders worked over the weekend to finish painting and the electricals and left only one worker on site Tuesday. Our contractors have gone on a much needed holiday. With the majority of the main work complete, cleaning up started and we turned out attention to getting the area tip top before we fit our new carpet tiles.

Vijayasri, Malcolm, Dhammasena and...

Letter from the Chair of the College of Public Preceptors to all Order Members

From Order Connection on Mon, 27 Mar, 2017 - 01:16

Dear Order Members,

The past few months have seen a wave of discussion within our Sangha about Sangharakshita and the Order, with some Order members questioning the way in which our Order is conceived, organised, and led. This was the main topic of the Public Preceptors’ College meeting, held at Adhisthana from 6th to 16th March. In entering this discussion, we take for granted that other Order members, like us, share a deep love and concern for the...

The Buddhafield season is upon us!

From Buddhafield on Wed, 22 Mar, 2017 - 15:42

The Buddhafield season begins in April, and the spring weather is drawing us closer to nature and to the land, calling us to a deeper experience of ourselves and others, supported by the earth.

Highlights of the season include our Total Immersion Retreat - a silent meditation retreat led by experienced meditators Kamalashila and Vajradevi, on our beautiful Broadhembury land in Devon. Beginning on 6th May, the retreat runs for a...

The Buddhist Centre Online - Keeping people connected

From FutureDharma on Tue, 21 Mar, 2017 - 12:03

Zoe Lim is the only GFR mitra in Singapore. She found Triratna at the Nottingham centre when she was a student, and since moving back to Singapore has returned to the UK to attend retreats at Tiratanaloka, and travelled to India for the International Buddhist Youth Convention. Liz caught up with her online to talk about her life in Singapore and how online resources keep her connected with the Sangha.

In Singapore life is fast paced, expensive and often stressful....
