From Triratna News on Fri, 7 Oct, 2011 - 19:04Many thanks to the over 200 people who have registered interest in the online version of the International Urban Retreat for 2011, in 55 different places from San Francisco to Toowoomba. We’re delighted to say that the retreat is now open for you to join in.
If you’re not sure how an Urban Retreat works, check out our quick guide, or jump in and test the waters (it’s completely free of charge)…
First of a series of short (3 minute) videos from me, here in Cambridge UK at the offices of Windhorse:Evolution where I work - Triratna’s largest and most successful team-based Right Livelihood Buddhist business. Here I reflect on how the importance of stillness fits with the momentum of movement in the worldly winds.
Welcome to the 2011 International Urban Retreat, wherever you might be in the world. Here’s an idea of what’s coming during the week and when you can expect to find it on-line. Each day we’ll be exploring different aspects of the overall theme - ‘Sailing the Worldly Winds’ - and posting fresh material.

A talk in which discusses Prajna (or spiritual wisdom), relative and absolute truth, and Avalokitesvara's advice in the Heart Sutra to avoid attachments to concepts.
Taranita explores the nature of symbols, and why they may be useful to us. In Buddhism, we make good use of symbols, not least in the form of mantra sound symbols. Taranita discusses the Heart Sutra as dharani, and the Prajnaparamita mantra within the Heart Sutra. The talk concludes with a discussion of the symbols associated with Amitabha.
In the final talk of the series, Taranita summaries the materil that has been convered in the talks, and concludes with advice on how we can approach the Heart Sutra.
