Triratna translations bonanza!

Suvannavira is a member of the Triratna Translations Board and lives in Moscow.

He writes:

The Triratna Translations Board came into existence at the end of 2015, to promote and co-ordinate translations and publications projects. One of our tasks has been to administer funds made available for translations by Bhante Sangharakshita, following his hugely successful 90th birthday appeal in 2015.

Of the £30,000 given for translating his books, £5,000 went to projects in India and the remaining £25,000 was given to projects elsewhere in the...

New Books for the New Year

By Liz_Bassett on Tue, 3 Jan, 2017 - 14:36

Happy New Year! I’m busy getting back into work and writing thank you notes for pressies received over the festive period. The best presents you can get I reckon, are books.  And they’re also the best to give because they can change lives. That’s why FutureDharma Fund supports the Translation Project, which is producing high quality translations of Sangharakshita’s presentation of the Dharma.

By supporting translators working in a range of languages the Translations Project is helping make the Dharma available to more...

Triratna Translations Board invites applications for money

By Munisha on Tue, 18 Oct, 2016 - 23:23

The Triratna Translations Board came into existence last year, to administer new funds made available by Sangharakshita following his 90th birthday appeal. Now inviting applications (deadline 31st October), they write:

“Have you ever heard of Kumarajiva, the 4th century monk who did a tremendous amount of work translating the Dharma into Chinese? For 12 years he led a team of monks and scholars with whom he accomplished the translation of the founding texts of the Great Vehicle, checking the translation of every single word...

Introducing the Triratna Translations Board

By Munisha on Wed, 20 Apr, 2016 - 15:42

Bhante’s 90th birthday fundraising last year raised well over £100,000 for the publication of his Complete Works, a job which is well under way and to which Bhante himself added more money specifically for translations. (You can too!) Suvannavira writes from Moscow about the work of the newly formed Triratna Translations Board.

“In a world where so many seem to speak English, why bother translating books by Bhante and his disciples into other languages? Imagine coming to...

Enormous boost for Triratna translations

By Munisha on Sat, 15 Aug, 2015 - 21:32

It’s a strange but common experience to enter a Triratna Buddhist Centre bookshop in Spain, Finland or Belgium - and many other non-English-speaking countries - and see rows of Triratna books in English, alongside – maybe – a few in the local language.

It can be a big enough step to enter a Buddhist Centre. Who needs a language barrier too?

As you’ll know, we’re raising £100,000 for Sangharakshita’s 90th birthday, to fund the publication of his Complete Works over the next 5-7 years. This...

Triratna Translations Project celebrates 30th language

By Munisha on Wed, 29 Jul, 2015 - 16:16

The Triratna Translations Project aims to translate the main texts and ceremonies used in the Triratna Buddhist Community into as many of the world’s languages as possible. With the translation of the Threefold Puja into Burmese it’s reached its 30th language. (This short puja was written by Bhante long ago, for the Finnish sangha, who found the Sevenfold Puja too elaborate.

It’s an ambitious project, but Lokabandhu, the project’s online co-ordinator says “We’re a worldwide community and between us...

Many thanks to Aryavasin for his translations of many basic Triratna texts into Albanian.  You’ll find them on his dedicated website https://budizmishqip.net. Here’s a selection:

The Five Precepts (Pesë Parimet)

The Heart Sutra (Sutra e Zemrës)

The Three-fold Puja (Puxha e Trefishtë)

The Dedication Ceremony (Ceremonia e Dedikimit)

There’s also a wide range of other Buddhist texts and introductions to meditation, taken from thebuddhistcentre.com.

Sangharakshita's diary

By Munisha on Tue, 7 Apr, 2015 - 15:35

Sangharakshita’s secretary, Ashavajit, writes from Adhisthana, in Herefordshire, UK:

“A late winter chill lingers here in south-west England, but the sun is getting progressively brighter and warmer, and leaves and buds are preparing to burst forth. The temperature in Bhante’s sun lounge at Adhisthana has been quite high during some of the brighter days, and the Bodhi tree there has been putting out quite a spray of heart shaped leaves.

The rather chilly and damp weather outside, however, has meant that Bhante has...
