Our next introductory course will be a short, beautifully weighted series facilitated by Narottama. It will continue each Wednesday through July 25th. Please join us for any or all of these sessions. Treat your heart this month!
We will be focusing on key teachings and meditation practices passed down through millennia within the Buddhist tradition. Participants will learn everything they need to begin a regular meditation practice or set their existing practice in a deeper context.
Gather as usual at PPMTV, we’ll take cushions and chairs and make our way around 9.45am to Prescott Park to meditate by 10. Rain days, we’ll stay inside!
In Spring 2017 we lost our Buddhist Center to a fire. Thanks to the great generosity and hard work of lots of people, the community recovered, deepened and strengthened. And we’ve gone on together since, renewing the Portsmouth sangha in some beautiful ways here in town.
On Saturday, March 24th, the Portsmouth Buddhist Center community came together to support and celebrate the mitra ceremonies of Sarah Flause and Chongson Scotts. Sangha members from Boston, Maine, New Hampshire and New York (well, New Jersey actually!) were among those gathered as well as family and friends of Sarah and Chong.
Thank you to Lona & Maryellen for bringing the flowers, and to Danakamala for creating the shrine. The colors all came together so beautifully! Thank you also to everyone...
What role does money play in our sense of identity, our self-worth and our feelings of personal security? This week we’ll be looking at what the Buddha’s pragmatic, ethical perspective on human happiness has to offer us in a world where money - or the pursuit of it - matters perhaps more than ever. Join us in exploring questions spiritual and economic with our guest speaker Amalavajra, visiting from the UK.
A former broker in London with J.P. Morgan, Amalavajra’s own journey...
Sunday October 8th through Sunday November 5th, 9.30am-12pm
Join us over the next 5 Sundays for a new series exploring what we turn to for deep satisfaction in America today. We’ll be meeting as an intentional community, meditating together, and looking with humor, humility and maybe even some grace at how the Buddha’s vision of reality relates to the big themes of this human life, so rich and so complex and, sometimes, so totally confusing!
Sunday October 1st, 9.30am-12pm Join us this Sunday for a first meditation and to dedicate our new space in the beautiful and historic Portsmouth Public Media building at 280 Marcy Street in Portsmouth’s South End. Our community gathering will take place at the new time of 9.30am-12pm, downstairs in Studio 1. We’d love to have you come and share your ideas for the future too!

We’re back under the trees for our Sunday gathering in Goodwin Park. This week we’re joined by Narottama, who, as part of our ongoing series ‘If the Buddha Lived In Portsmouth’, will be opening up a story from the teachings of the Buddha around how to develop tolerance, friendliness, kindness and consideration - even in tough times!
Sunday August 13, 10AM-12:30 PM
We will provide some mats and cushions; please bring a chair if you need one.
Once again, we will hold our Sunday gathering in the fresh air of Goodwin Park. This week we continue our focus on the historical Buddha, as we launch a new Sunday topic: If the Buddha Lived in Portsmouth.
Sunday August 6, 10AM-12:30 PM
Each week we will look at a story about the Buddha’s life and what it says about the kind of person he was. We will also consider the relevance of...
