BAM 2019 - Fundraiser

By saradarshini on Tue, 9 Jul, 2019 - 03:29

This year at the WBC we have been unable to participate fully in BAM due to a lack of resources but I think it’s important that we as Buddhists think about the outward facing aspect of our practice, there can be a bit of a tendency to get really focussed inwards, either on ourselves or on the Wellington Sangha. Too many people in the night in the rain: Impressions from Venezuela

By Liz_Bassett on Tue, 25 Jun, 2019 - 18:05

In October 2018 Saraha paid a visit to Venezuela, part funded by Future Dharma, to support the sangha and Vajranatha, who is the only Order member in the whole of Venezuela. Saraha writes a full account of his time there and gives us some impressions of what it is like for those living and practising the Dharma in the midst of a volatile political landscape.

50 Years, 50 Voices: Jnanadakini

By Candradasa on Tue, 4 Sep, 2018 - 17:39

Immediately I said yes, and then I thought, ‘Oh, wow, it’s Venezuela… it’s almost like war!’ I didn’t know what kind of adventure it was going to be…

Jnanadakini’s Annals

In 1968 I was trying to understand the tragic political events in my country, Mexico, during the killing of many many students; and at the same time being moved by the Beatles song ‘All You Need Is Love’ and the Olympic games in Mexico.

In 1978 I was studying Sociology at the University, finding my individuality with leftists and...

5 Years Of The Buddhist Centre Online: #5 Meditation for Transformation

By Sadayasihi on Thu, 14 Jun, 2018 - 16:51

The object of meditation is to transform oneself, not to have good meditations

Sangharakshita, Peace is a Fire

What Meditation Is and What It Isn’t
Often one of the first things one learns when one comes into contact with Buddhism - and sometimes even before that - is meditation. However, it is not always clear exactly what meditation is, or easy to articulate it! In the last 5 years of The Buddhist Centre Online there have...
