Peacock Plumes in Southampton - Introducing The Amitabha Project

By Centre Team on Tue, 1 Mar, 2022 - 12:00

Since opening the centre in the converted premises of the old Plume of Feathers pub in the St Mary’s district four years ago, The Southampton Buddhist Center has been through a period of what feels like an incubation of new sangha lives. During the Covid pandemic, 20 people have had their mitra ceremonies. There have been two local ordinations and numerous ordination requests.

Now that the lockdowns have eased, these lives are interacting together in a range of endeavors that...

International Sangha Day: May Our Communication Be Sangha

By Centre Team on Fri, 10 Sep, 2021 - 20:51

Sunday November 21
Sangha, spiritual community, can be described as a network of friendships based on what’s of most value. In the company of those committed to the Buddha’s teachings – past and present – we can express and deepen metta, loving-kindness, in our deeds, words and thoughts.

This year’s International Sangha Day celebration focuses on communication because communication is a crucial part of the practice and development of Sangha. At its worst, communication can cause conflict and confusion, polarisation and the...

Sangharakshita’s Three Jewels trilogy back in print

By Windhorse Publi... on Wed, 27 Jan, 2021 - 12:08

Sangharakshita’s Three Jewels trilogy (Who is the Buddha?, What is the Dharma? and What is the Sangha?) is essential reading for anyone with an interest in Buddhism. It provides an elucidation of the three central principles on which Buddhism is based: the Buddha, who represents the principle of ‘awakening’; the Dharma, the teachings and practices that cultivate awakening; and the Sangha, the principle of spiritual friendship. For quite some time, both Who is the Buddha? and What is the Sangha? have been out of print. We’re pleased...

An Online Festival Of Light: International Sangha Day, November 28th 2020

By Centre Team on Tue, 29 Sep, 2020 - 21:34

What a year… Through dark days that have brought heartache for so many reasons, we’ve come together as a community time and time again. Resilient, reflective, remarkable. And now, as we head into winter in one hemisphere and summer in another, we invite everyone moved by the sangha in 2020 to gather again as one.

We’ll pass the torch around the world once more – starting at dawn in the south Pacific, ending with nightfall in the north – ringing Triratna with...

Windhorse Publications Free the Dharma - Stories of practice

By dhammamegha on Tue, 26 May, 2020 - 12:55

Many Dharma books give advice on how to meditate or reflect: others offer maps of the mind. But this week we’re giving away a book of a different kind; a book of stories of practice.

How does the Dharma work? Based on 22 interviews or reflections, Challenging Times: Stories of Buddhist practice when things get tough is a compelling read. You can download it here until 8 June.
