Kamalashila's Quarterly No.3 - On Gonzo Psychogeography And New Beginnings

By Candradasa on Sat, 18 Apr, 2015 - 18:37

Another excellent conversation with Kamalashila in our occasional series from West London, where we celebrate the opening of their incredibly impressive new Buddhist Centre. But first we touch on all things liminal in our ongoing exchanges about landscape - particularly, in this case, the “gonzo psychogeography” of London and its subterranean rivers.

We also hear about new beginnings in the shape of a Welsh contemplative community project, and Buddhafield as it re-emerges from some years...

Buddhist Voices - Amalavajra, Banker to Buddhist

By Candradasa on Tue, 30 Dec, 2014 - 23:26
How do you go from investment banker to full-time Buddhist practitioner? A fascinating account of a very rich life that takes Amalavajra from English boarding school and Cambridge University to J.P. Morgan as a pioneer of the now infamous asset-backed securities that became a prime factor in the credit collapse of 2008. His journey winds via improbably different worlds: from scuba diving on coral reefs to the Henley Regatta, from delivering pizzas around London at night to riding the...

Buddhist Voices - Amitasuri on Buddhist Chaplaincy

By Candradasa on Wed, 10 Dec, 2014 - 17:27
A wonderful conversation with Amitasuri who has overcome huge health difficulties to train and work as a Buddhist Chaplain in the UK. Her passion for the vocational side of chaplaincy is inspiring and infectious, and it’s moving to hear how her own situation has allowed her to be present - truly present - with people suffering greatly, and to make a difference in that way.

Kamalashila's Quarterly No.2 - On Landscape and Experiment

By Candradasa on Wed, 12 Nov, 2014 - 20:28
Our second extensive conversation with Kamalashila comes a little late in the ‘quarterly’ cycle but is well worth waiting for as we plunge deep into some rich, sparkling pools of conversation that yield much to delight, challenge, refresh, and stimulate…

We have three main connected topics this time: landscape itself and its effect on individuals within a particular culture of practice; experimental practice as a spiritual movement changes and grows; and what we have to learn from the wider...

By Manidha on Wed, 24 Sep, 2014 - 13:36
A great conversation with six members of the Triratna Buddhist Order from North America at the end of their bi-annual Convention. Karunadevi, Amala, Suddhayu, Viradhamma, and Rijupatha all join our host Manidha for a round-table discussion of what it means to be part of Triratna on this continent in 2014.

Some thoughtful recollections from the early days in the mid-’80s meet a wonderful sense of optimism and gratitude from the present as we consider conditions for practice in the...

Buddhist Voices - Suryadhamma from Cambridge, Massachusetts

By Candradasa on Sun, 21 Sep, 2014 - 14:33
A fascinating set of tales from Suriyadhamma from his many years worth of Buddhist practice. Taking us from his first encounters with the writings of Alan Watts in the ’60s through his long discipleship with Chogyam Trungpa and eventual membership of the Triratna Buddhist Order itself. And a wonderful insight into practice for someone who has lost his sight and finds light and joy all around him, especially through meditation. Suriyadhamma’s is a compelling and encouraging voice.
