Day Four #PilgrimageUnlimited Video Diary: Henley to Wallingford

By akasajoti on Thu, 15 Jun, 2023 - 22:09

Emergency provisions, flowering dog roses, and a pre-historic ridgeway through beech woodlands… 🪄🌹🦖🌳

Ratnadharini writes:

Day four - Henley to Wallingford; a mere 12.5 miles, mainly on beautiful tracks through beech woods. The final section was along the chalky Ridgeway path; I’m familiar with other sections, but not this one - which is accompanied by the prehistoric Grim’s Ditch. Forgot to bring lunch, so survived on emergency rations of peanuts and an energy bar - then came across a Church offering free tea and...

Day Three #PilgrimageUnlimited Video Diary: Windsor to Henley

By akasajoti on Wed, 14 Jun, 2023 - 23:39

Brambles, blisters and a kingfisher… 🌞🌸

She writes:

Windsor to Henley; 18 miles and the longest of the first 5 days, so a relief to have managed it. Thames path to Maidenhead, then I cut across to Henley on the Berkshire loop of the Chiltern Way and local footpaths (which meant bramble scratches and nettle stings). Henley-on-Thames is a pretty town, famous for the annual boat race.

Day Two #PilgrimageUnlimited Video Diary: Shepperton to Windsor

By akasajoti on Tue, 13 Jun, 2023 - 23:30

She writes:

Day Two: Shepperton to Windsor (although I’m actually staying across the bridge in Eton) - still following the Thames. ‘Only’ 14.5 miles, but it felt as strenuous as yesterday’s 17; so I’m nervous about tomorrow’s 18. I’ll start early, but there’s no avoiding the heat. I’ve got a great rain/sun hat, and am carrying lots of water. Really appreciate the video messages from friends!

I’ve walked past some stunning riverside properties, both ancient and modern, with a range of craft moored in...

Day One #PilgrimageUnlimited Video Diary: Tooting Broadway to Shepperton

By akasajoti on Tue, 13 Jun, 2023 - 23:05

On Monday morning Ratnadharini set off from Tooting Broadway, and by the end of the day she had walked 16.71 miles (in 27°C heat!), along the Thames Path out of London, ending in Shepperton.

She writes:

Vajratara, Dhammagita, Akasajoti and Dhammarati waved me off from Tooting Broadway; Dhammagita with beautiful perfumed rose petals! Thanks dear friends. It was surreal to be setting off due West across South London (I’m a Northerner myself), but there were some stretches of surprisingly green tracks. Even so, it...

By akasajoti on Mon, 12 Jun, 2023 - 15:28

Ratnadharini’s epic journey to fundraise for Tiratanaloka Unlimited has begun!

After being waved off by the Adhisthana Community on Friday; this morning Ratnadharini set off from Tooting Broadway, showered in petals by Dhammagita, Vajratara, Dhammarati and Akasajoti.

Today she will walk 16.71 miles, along the Thames Path out of London to Shepperton, in 27°C heat and possible storms!

We’ll be following her all the way (in spirit!), sharing her progress and daily video diaries.

To The Hills

By Candradasa on Fri, 31 Jan, 2014 - 14:07A rather wonderful, beautifully shot film from Shantiketu of the Glasgow Buddhist Centre, detailing a trip some members of the Triratna Buddhist Order made in 2013 to visit places in north east India associated with their teacher Urgyen Sangharakshita, and some of his own main teachers.

Watch another film about pilgrimage to the hermitages and monasteries of Kalimpong, Darjeeling and Sikkim. (From Lights In The Sky.)
