Sunday at the International Gathering

By Munisha on Mon, 28 Aug, 2017 - 20:09

On our last full day we heard from Triratna Hungary, with a presentation from mitra Tibor Derdak of the Dr Ambedkar High School, which offers gypsy girls and boys a way out of poverty and discrimination. As he said, quoting Subhuti, if the Buddha were to walk down the street in Hungary today, everyone would assume he was a gypsy.

Dhammamegha gave us an excellent talk on the importance of sangha and friendship: ‘Wisdom’s gathering: the difference...

UK and Ireland Order weekend: "A rich and many splendored thing"

By Munisha on Mon, 21 Aug, 2017 - 13:01

Three hundred and fifty or so members of the Triratna Buddhist Order have been meeting at Adhisthana, UK. This summer’s UK and Ireland Order weekend included women and men from countries including Sweden, France, Spain, India, Belgium, Mexico and Venezuela, supported by an international mitra team.

The weekend had three emphases:
1. Extending outwards
2. Going deeper
3. Learning from the past

Extending outwards The Order’s symbol...

Dharma Drama - with Liz Armour

By Mokshini on Wed, 14 Jun, 2017 - 12:57

One of my personal highlights of past International Gatherings is the daily dharma drama; the time of storytelling and enactment by children and adults alike in the evening before the puja: All are welcome to take part!

This year we are again lucky enough to have the multi-talented musician and children’s play worker Liz Armour at the International gathering. Everyone is invited,   young and old alike, to take part in the afternoon dharma drama session. We’ll first listen to...

Midwinter music: The Starriness of Things

By Munisha on Thu, 25 Dec, 2014 - 00:24In this festive season, whatever you are celebrating (or not), let’s hear from Triratna musicians in the northern hemisphere making “a joyful noise unto the Lord”. (Not that Lord.)
Listen to all the music mentioned below.

Joe Richardson is a mitra living in the Scottish Borders. His resonant voice is already known to some of us in his version of the Karaniya Metta Sutta; now he’s set 10 of Sangharakshita’s poems to music and he’d love to...

What's happening in the Highlands?

By satyapada on Wed, 8 Jan, 2014 - 14:49We’ve got a centre in Inverness. Inumerable hassles with the property company and its minions that we’re renting from, but hey, who said it was going to be easy? If they did they were wrong…..

Last August we had Belladrum festival - small (15,000) music festival 15 miles from Inverness. We’ve been there for 7 of the 10 years it’s been running.

The first year we tried to get all the different buddhist groups around Inverness to join...
