Refreshing The Heart - Week 3

By Candradasa on Mon, 3 Nov, 2014 - 14:43This week as part of our four-week Tuesday course on bringing back a bit of emotional shine to our meditation we’ll be looking at ways to work creatively within the Metta Bhavana practice, and how these can help us keep our emotional positivity going outside of formal meditation when, perhaps, we most need it…

NB. This week we’ll be back to our normal time of 2.30pm EST/7.30pm UK. See here...

Potentially the biggest united campaign of our time, Buddhist voices have much to add.

New Name For Group: Karaniya Metta Kula

By Christine on Fri, 29 Aug, 2014 - 10:24At our first “Beyond BAM” meeting (Aug 14), one of the goals was to choose a new name for the group. Shining out for its inclusivity, simplicity, and straight-forwardness, those in attendance decided unanimously on “Karaniya Metta Kula”. This famous sutta, which literally means “beautiful metta”, elegantly summarizes all the ways by which we can have a positive influence on the world around us, whether through meditation:
And think of every living thing without exception:
the weak and the strong,...

A day for women Mitra’s and Order Member’s led by Maitrimala. The day will be an opportunity to meditate, discuss and reflect on Metta. FBA podcast: Metta Blazing Like the Sun

FBA podcast: Metta Blazing Like the Sun

By Rijupatha on Mon, 14 Apr, 2014 - 15:13Our FBA Podcast this week, “Metta Blazing Like the Sun,” is Vajratara’s talk from the young people’s retreat at Adhisthana – ‘the big one’. Starting with a world on fire, Vajratara strips down what metta actually means in our experience: an awareness that discerns what is positive and stops it slipping from our minds. This is the seed of liberation, the cry of sunyata ‘unconditioned and unconfined’. Metta as a special quality of awareness radiating...

Tonglen Retreat: Tuesday

By saddhanandi on Tue, 25 Mar, 2014 - 06:54The sky is heavy and grey with cloud, which is interesting as we’re in the middle phase of the retreat and it can be a time when people can hit more resistance, so it’s as if the sky is reflecting that back to us after the bright clear skies of yesterday.

The thankha of four-armed Avalokitesvara, hanging above the shrine, is reflecting back a different perspective and Ratnavandana drew this out in the readings in last night’s puja.

Consciousness, Friends, Bodhicitta & Love

Consciousness, Friends, Bodhicitta & Love

By viriyalila on Sat, 15 Feb, 2014 - 21:06We aim to express themes in our weekly FBA Podcasts and twice-weekly Dharmabytes. This month we’ve moved from the depths of consciousness, to reflections on Bhante as friend, from the Bodhicitta, to the Karyaniya Metta Sutta and the power of love. This theme may not be obvious to most, but for our podcast compiler, Viriyalila, this progression is all about faith, perhaps more personal than most of our themes, but a theme none the less.
