To celebrate Dublin Pride 2018, and Buddhist Action Month (BAM), the Dublin Buddhist Centre hosted a special Pride celebration on the 25th June. Kasey Tobin, a GFR Mitra involved in the event gives us a flavour of the event.

Maitrikaya from the Dublin Buddhist Centre writes: “On March 24th 2018 at the historic Rotunda building in Dublin a meeting took place to establish the Irish Buddhist Union (IBU) to represent Buddhism in Ireland. The IBU is a new umbrella association of Buddhist Sanghas and Organisations in Ireland. It is envisioned as a fellowship of Irish Buddhists, intending to bring Buddhist ideas and principles to the attention of wider Irish society.
In addition to our BAM programme we asked our Sangha to sign up to one of three challenges: going vegan for the month, exploring how to divest from fossil fuels or taking the plastic challenge. Quite a few people took up one (or even two!) of these challenges, with the plastic challenge being by far the most popular. I look forward to hearing how people got on with their pledges for the month.
The Dublin Buddhist Centre is participating in the 2017 Buddhist Action Month. Among the events planned this year are an outdoor writing workshop, a mandala workshop using recycled materials, a practice morning in a local park, the screening of ‘Demain’ (Tomorrow), ’A Better World is Possible’ workshop on climate change and what we can do, an all-night meditation and puja hosted by the Young Buddhist Group and more besides! See our full programme here.
This is the first year that the Dublin Buddhist Centre has gotten actively involved in Buddhist Action Month. It has been enthusiastically embraced by the Centre team and the Sangha and now most of the events happening in June have been ‘BAM!’-ed! To get into the spirit of BAM all events are on a donation or dana basis, (though there is a non-refundable €50 booking deposit for the Cavan retreat).
