European Buddhist Union weekend 2017

By Munisha on Tue, 17 Oct, 2017 - 11:14

As the ‘Liaison Officer’ for Triratna’s European Chairs’ Assembly, I’m the person who looks after Triratna’s co-operation with other Buddhist traditions on matters of common interest. As part of this work, each September I attend the AGM weekend of the European Buddhist Union  (EBU) and the meeting of the Buddhist Teachers in Europe. This year both took place at the Benchen Katsang Retreat Centre just west of Warsaw, Poland. Next year will see them...

Looking back on Buddhist Action Month 2017

By Aryanisha on Tue, 4 Jul, 2017 - 13:20

This June saw another successful Buddhist Action Month (BAM) unfold. We take a look at what it was all about and how the Triratna Buddhist Community around the world took part.

So what is BAM?

Mokshini writes

“At the heart of Triratna is the Bodhisattva Ideal – the aspiration and heartfelt wish to benefit others and the commitment to act in ways that help all beings to thrive. Buddhist Action Month is an opportunity to reach out and engage with friends or local communities in ways that...

BAM in the Dublin Buddhist Centre - a short report

By Sadayasihi on Mon, 26 Jun, 2017 - 19:10

It was a busy month in Dublin!

In addition to our BAM programme we asked our Sangha to sign up to one of three challenges: going vegan for the month, exploring how to divest from fossil fuels or taking the plastic challenge.  Quite a few people took up one (or even two!) of these challenges, with the plastic challenge being by far the most popular.  I look forward to hearing how people got on with their pledges for the month.

Here is a...

Buddhist Action Month 2017 begins!

By Munisha on Thu, 1 Jun, 2017 - 08:45

June is Buddhist Action Month (BAM) and Triratna sanghas all over the world have been planning activities as part of this festival of Buddhist social action. Beginning in 2012 as a day (BAD!), this is a pan-Buddhist initiative from the UK’s Network of Buddhist Organisations. The theme this year is ‘Connecting for change’, which we’re connecting strongly with the Bodhisattva Ideal.

Over on The Buddhist Centre Online’s dedicated BAM space you can follow...

June is Buddhist Action Month!

By Munisha on Thu, 27 Apr, 2017 - 14:50

Buddhist Action Month is only a month away! For 2017 the theme of this festival of Buddhist social action is ‘Connecting for Change’ - seeking to address the seemingly increasing polarisation, disharmony and divergence within many societies.

Having started in 2012 as an initiative of the UK’s Network of Buddhist Organisations BAM is now in its fifth year and increasingly international and pan-Buddhist.

Of course the Triratna Buddhist Community is dedicated to the Bodhisattva Ideal all year round, but...

Buddhafield BAM - Zero Waste and Nappies

By Utpaladhi on Sat, 18 Jun, 2016 - 17:00

Buddhafield is striving to become a zero waste festival and we need your help. Disposable nappy waste is the biggest single waste item we have to deal with at the end of the festival. We are therefore thrilled to announce, during Buddhist Action Month, that Nappy Ever After (a real nappy company) will attend Buddhafield for the first time this year. You will be able to use washable nappies on your baby/toddler while you are there. Nappy Ever After is...

Bristol joins growing list of "sustainable centres"

By Munisha on Fri, 4 Dec, 2015 - 17:02

Triratna’s Sustainable Buddhist Centre certification scheme is growing and growing, and it’s burst out of Britain! The Dutch sanghas in Amsterdam and at Metta Vihara Retreat Centre are among 10 centres certified so far, with two more pending. (See list below.)

Bristol Buddhist Centre, UK, is the latest of these centres, where Kamalamani is the centre’s Sustainability Co-ordinator. She writes: “Triratna’s Sustainable Centre scheme is another way of reminding ourselves at home and in our public centres that...
