By Centre Team on Fri, 29 May, 2020 - 12:59

By Sadayasihi on Fri, 29 May, 2020 - 11:11

Buddhist Action Month (BAM) - an annual festival of social action overseen by the Network of Buddhist Organisations - has been taking place every June since 2012. This year is no exception, despite the changed circumstances, with sanghas going online to offer opportunities to engage with this year’s theme - “…for the Earth”, where the suggestion is to put this phrase in the title of any event that’s being organised for BAM 2020.

On 1, 8 and 15 June, Sangha night will focus on the theme for Buddhist Action Month, which this year is …for the Earth. We will explore what we want to do or say ‘for the Earth’, with short talks, discussion and ritual and with reference to the Brahmaviharas – specifically Metta (love), Karuna (compassion) and Mudita (joy). These weeks will be led by Karunagita with support from Katja and the Sangha night team.

Kaspalita Thompson from the Network of Buddhist Organisations UK writes:

BAM! 2020

Hi everyone - we are heading towards June, Buddhist Action Month!

The theme for 2020 is … For The Earth. The invitation is to put your group name, event name or own personal theme before the phrase ‘For The Earth’. In this way we have both a unifying element, and a way of reflecting our diversity as Buddhists and activists. Some examples:

Tidying our park for the Earth
Bodhisattva practice...

Please join in a collective Metta wave in whatever way you can, wherever you are - not just for the loss but for the courage, bravery and dedication of those fighting the fires, rescuing animals and for all the acts of kindness that have been happening.

You can share what you are...

Dharmabyte: Climate Crisis Calls for Rapid Transformation

By Sadayasihi on Mon, 29 Jul, 2019 - 14:00

Tejopala likens the current global climate crisis to a village with a fire that threatens everyone in it and asks what a community of monks living in such a village might do in such circumstances.
