I want a magic bullet!

I want a magic bullet!

From Coogee Buddhist Group on Wed, 13 Jan, 2016 - 07:23

I often, like really often, catch myself wanting life’s challenges sorted out in my time and on my terms.

Practice is slowly teaching me that this is unhelpful, wishful thinking and a better strategy is just to sit with life’s complexity and conundrums and let common sense and reality gradually emerge.

I also learn that sometimes there is no outcome that will sit in the middle of the way I’d like it to be and that’s okay; perhaps even better!

Meditation helps me to work patiently...

Ratnaguna - Three Talks On The Pureland

From European Chairs' Assembly on Wed, 13 Jan, 2016 - 00:09

Ratnaguna - Three Talks On The Pureland

From European Chairs' Assembly on Wed, 13 Jan, 2016 - 00:09

A new three-part series from Ratnaguna introduces the Pureland texts as a practice in themselves, and discusses their relationship to Sangharakshita’s core teachings.

In the first talk Ratnaguna takes us on an excellent exploration of imagination itself, essential for understanding the sutras on their own terms. The second talk discusses how the texts hint at what Sangharakshita calls the supra-personal force of the Bodhichitta. The third talk is on the importance of sangha in the sutras and its relevance...

Concluding Thoughts At The End Of The ECA

From Community Highlights on Mon, 11 Jan, 2016 - 18:02

A great summary of a very full week’s work and Dharma practice from Mokshini and Dassini as the great winter gathering of European Triratna Buddhists comes to an end.

As well as the overview we also hear about a special and moving ritual for one member of the assembly choosing to go deeper with the practice of simplicity and contentment in her life… A beautiful way to mark the close of a deepening kind of meeting!

ECA Winter 2016 - Podcast No.4: Ratnaghosha On 'One Sangha'

From European Chairs' Assembly on Mon, 11 Jan, 2016 - 17:45

An exciting idea from the Triratna European Chairs meeting at Adhisthana. Mokshini talking to Ratnaghosha, the Chair of the Cambridge Buddhist Centre, on the theme of how best to celebrate our world-wide Triratna sangha. This would be both to promote unity across our sanghas as well help give those attending local Centres a sense of the internationality of our Movement which might not be obvious for those coming along.

In fact, over the course of the next 18 months there...

ECA Winter 2016: Days 5 & 6

From European Chairs' Assembly on Sun, 10 Jan, 2016 - 22:18

Yesterday the 35 or so European Chairs began the day with meditation as every day; followed by a presentation on the work of the College of Public Preceptors, from its Chair, Saddhaloka.

They looked at ideas for future international celebrations of Triratna: there’s the 60th anniversary of Dr Ambedkar’s conversion to Buddhism, which falls in 14th October this year and is so particularly important for our sangha in India. In April 2017 there is the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Friends of...

Subhuti on the Six Elements Practice

From The View: a co created vision of dharma practice on Sat, 9 Jan, 2016 - 22:13

There’s a lot of discussion points here.  What stands out for me -

(1) How insight is currently being absorbed in the Order
(2) Meditative insight practice - something many are experimenting with post DP
(3) Subhuti’s considerations of doubt and conviction

ECA Winter 2016: Days 1-4

From European Chairs' Assembly on Sat, 9 Jan, 2016 - 14:52

The first of the ECA’s two meetings this year began last Monday evening.

The first day was spent, as usual, in groups sharing their lives as Order members and as Chairs of Triratna centres and other Triratna enterprises in Europe; friendship is at the heart of the ECA meetings, as well as the work itself. Many of the Chairs have been coming for years, or know each other from other Triratna gatherings. Thus business takes place in an atmosphere of...
