An impromptu 'Indexer's Obituary'

An impromptu 'Indexer's Obituary'

From Sangharakshita Memorial Space on Sun, 4 Nov, 2018 - 12:59

I’ve been working on the index for Volume 13 of Bhante’s Complete Works for the last few weeks and finished it on Friday morning, having worked late into the night before.  It has felt like its own kind of vigil for Bhante to be doing this.  A great privilege to tend his ‘Dharma body’, or one physical manifestation of it, at least.  I’m not a professional indexer but a (supported) amateur - tho’ as Vidyadevi kindly reminded me, the etymology of...

Farewell my dear Teacher...

Farewell my dear Teacher...

From Sangharakshita Memorial Space on Sun, 4 Nov, 2018 - 12:17

Farewell my dear Teacher, you who have so enriched my life. I am proud to be one of your disciples and my heart is tender and grateful for all you have given this suffering world. So many gifts, so many qualities… how can one begin to express them? Of all the reflections that have arisen since your death I constantly return to the quality of the friendships that bless my life: you taught us how to be true friends, to dance...

From Sangharakshita Memorial Space on Sun, 4 Nov, 2018 - 05:25

One of my favourite memories of Sangharakshita - 20 years ago at the dedication of 12 ‘Scottish’ Buddhas. Wishing you well Bhante wherever you may be.

gatherings in Thames, Aotearoa New Zealand

From Sangharakshita Memorial Space on Sun, 4 Nov, 2018 - 04:53

Here in Thames, Aotearoa NZ, our sangha awoke to the sad news of Urgyen Sangharakshita’s death on Wednesday morning.  Since then we have been gathering both formally and spontaneously to honour Bhante and support each other in this significant and special time.

On the Wednesday we had a cherry blossom viewing meditation and picnic lunch planned in front of the public library.  Which we went ahead with, with Bhante and the beauty of impermanence very much in our hearts and...

Tiratanaloka remembers Bhante

Tiratanaloka remembers Bhante

From Sangharakshita Memorial Space on Sat, 3 Nov, 2018 - 20:30

The team at Tiratanaloka are bearing Bhante, the Order, and the Sangha in mind at this time.  Kalyanasri is running a retreat here for her preceptees.  We joined with them on Tuesday, spending the day chanting and meditating.  In the evening Santavajri led a puja.  We are very glad to be with the Order at such a time.  Our connections with each other, and with Bhante, run deeper than we can ever fathom, through life and death.  We have been able...

Memoir of Bhante in the Early Days

From Sangharakshita Memorial Space on Sat, 3 Nov, 2018 - 19:51

I was invited to write the following little memoir as a contribution to a possible booklet to be published for Bhante’s funeral. Plans then changed, so it now seems fitting to post it on the Remembrance page for the Book of Gratitude.

With warm wishes to all at this strong time.

Remembering Bhante in India

Remembering Bhante in India

From India Dhamma Trust: "At the heart of a peaceful Dhamma Revolution" on Sat, 3 Nov, 2018 - 12:49

A very moving film of Bhante in India. Despite the constant attention and long train rides, he looks so delighted to see the Indian Buddhists. Let us continue his work in India in his memory with the India Dhamma Trust.

I hope the time will come when all Buddhists will consider themselves to be just Buddhists. We don’t want to be Hinayana or Mahayana
Buddhists. We don’t want to be Indian or English Buddhists. We don’t want to be

FBA Podcast: Vajrapani - Energy Unlimited

From Free Buddhist Audio on Sat, 3 Nov, 2018 - 12:00

Our FBA Podcast this week is a cracking and wonderfully detailed talk called Vajrapani - Energy Unlimited by Vessantara, author of ‘Meeting the Buddhas’. He is the ideal person to introduce us to the complex and fascinating Tantric figure of Vajrapani - ‘Lord of Secrets’, embodiment of ”virya’ (Energy in Pursuit of the Good). Vessantara’s style is familiar and well-earthed, and therefore eminently well suited to material that bristles with electricity and is...

The Essen Sangha honouring our teacher

The Essen Sangha honouring our teacher

From Sangharakshita Memorial Space on Sat, 3 Nov, 2018 - 09:59
In the Essen Buddhist Centre we have ceased most of our regular activities for this week, like study groups, and instead have been practising together every day remembering our precious teacher. Each day we have communal meditations in the morning and an hour of mantra chanting in the evening followed by a special programme devoted to Bhante with meditation, sharing of memories, poems and puja. On tuesday we held...
