Puja pour Bhante

From Centre bouddhiste Triratna de Paris on Fri, 29 Aug, 2014 - 22:22

New article on exploring the formless realms

From Western Buddhist Review on Fri, 29 Aug, 2014 - 18:17I am delighted to present a new article by Dharmacari Satyadhana for Western Buddhist Review. It is a translation and commentary on a discourse from the Middle-length sayings of the Buddha, ‘The Shorter Discourse on Emptiness’, in which the Buddha teaches Ananda about how to dwell in the realization of ´sūnyatā or emptiness, by dwelling successively in each of a series of increasingly refined realizations called ‘the formless realms’. But the article is more than this - it...

Sun Sept 21 > Uniting Buddhist Voices with the People's Climate March and Earth Summit in NYC

From Earth Metta Sangha on Fri, 29 Aug, 2014 - 10:38On September 21st, thousands of people around the world will take to the streets in order to motivate the world’s leaders (at the Earth Summit in New York City) to take ambitious action on the climate crisis. Potentially the biggest united campaign of our time, Buddhist voices have much to add.

On this day, we’ll engage in ritual across both spiritual and worldly realms. Following a morning of meditation, discussion and puja at the Centre (yet to be determined),...

New Name For Group: Karaniya Metta Kula

New Name For Group: Karaniya Metta Kula

From Earth Metta Sangha on Fri, 29 Aug, 2014 - 10:24At our first “Beyond BAM” meeting (Aug 14), one of the goals was to choose a new name for the group. Shining out for its inclusivity, simplicity, and straight-forwardness, those in attendance decided unanimously on “Karaniya Metta Kula”. This famous sutta, which literally means “beautiful metta”, elegantly summarizes all the ways by which we can have a positive influence on the world around us, whether through meditation:
And think of every living thing without exception:
the weak and the strong,...

Forgetfulness and distraction are the rule in ordinary life, but awareness and a ‘fullness of mind’ is at the heart of human growth and development. Sangharakshita gives us today’s FBA Dharmabyte, “Unmindfulness Defined,” from the 1968 talk “Levels of Awareness: Right Mindfulness”. This talk is part of the series “The Buddha’s Noble Eightfold Path”.

Ecodharma activist training goes trans-European

From Triratna News on Thu, 28 Aug, 2014 - 00:30The Ecodharma Centre is a Triratna retreat centre in Catalunya, Spain. Since 2009 an important strand of Ecodharma’s work has been the development of Dharma-based courses for social and environmental activists.

Now Ecodharma is running “Training for Trainers” courses for people who want to provide similar training for grassroots activists in their own countries across mainland Europe.

“Our work with social activists is a secular reworking of much of the Buddhist-inspired material we have developed within...

Training the Mind

From Coogee Buddhist Group on Tue, 26 Aug, 2014 - 12:04

Training the Mind

From Coogee Buddhist Group on Tue, 26 Aug, 2014 - 12:04To meditate is to train the mind. We all accept that one must train the body if we are to be an athlete or even simply enjoy a fit and well body that can serve our needs. And we accept that to play a musical instrument well and thereby provide joy to self and others one must put in many hours of practice…

Well meditation is no different. Consider these verses the Buddha spoke from the Dhatuvibhangha Sutta:
