European Chairs' Assembly winter meeting at Adhisthana

By Munisha on Fri, 8 Jan, 2016 - 21:24

The Chairs of Triratna’s centres and other enterprises in Europe are meeting this week at Adhisthana, for the first of the European Chairs’ Assembly’s two annual meetings this year.

After reporting in and a very inspiring day studying the Pure Land Sutras with Ratnaguna, they are hard at work, looking at their attitudes to money, hearing presentations from selected centres (this week it’s Taraloka and Guhyaloka) and playing table tennis.

They’ve also had a presentations on the Young Buddhist project, using news media to promote...

The young Buddhists: Triratna's secret

By Munisha on Thu, 17 Dec, 2015 - 18:55

Presenting Triratna to the European Buddhist Union meeting in Berlin in September, I mentioned Triratna’s recent success in attracting more young people. With most sanghas ageing, people wanted to know our secret.

One answer is that we appointed a Young Buddhist co-ordinator to encourage young Buddhist activities and help other young Buddhists develop the confidence to lead.

Prajnaketu is the new, full-time Young Buddhist Co-ordinator appointed to the Development Team who work for Triratna’s European Chairs’ Assembly. He...

Clear Vision reports from Triratna’s 8th Young Buddhist retreat in October at Adhisthana, UK. Young Order members, Friends and Mitras explain the importance of these events and rejoice in their friendships. They also say goodbye to Singhamati, stepping down as the European Chairs’ Assembly’s (ECA) part-time Young People’s Co-ordinator.

As she explains, it all began with the first weekend for young people, in 2008, at which some old people were also present, “trying to be young people”. (Yeah, thanks, Singhamati!) What...

Parami's Perspectives No. 5 - Rijumayi on Young Buddhists Australia

By parami on Fri, 23 Oct, 2015 - 01:48

Parami’s season of interviews from the South Pacific continues with an in-depth chat to Rijumayi, a young woman who has just joined the Triratna Buddhist Order and is pioneering the Australian branch of the international Young Buddhists movement out of Melbourne.

It’s a thoughtful engagement around the particularities of practice for young people - around ethics and the challenges of building Dharma support for others your own age when you are still working everything out yourself.

Buddhism and the Modern World

By vajratara on Thu, 10 Sep, 2015 - 10:46

Great to see those of you who came to the young women’s retreat at Tiratanaloka.  I was left feeling that the future of the Order is in good hands.  Here is the talk I gave about the state of the world: refugees, Jeremy Corbyn, money, power, the environment, and what the Buddhist response is.  I think we are on the brink of something quite new, and Buddhism has an important role to play…

Triratna at the Generation X Dharma Teacher Gathering in the US

Following the US Dharma Teacher Gathering, Bodhipaksa, Singhashri, Vidyamala and Vimalasara travelled on to the ‘Gen X’ gathering, 6th-10th June, at Dharma Drum Retreat Centre in New York State. This was a meeting for Dharma teachers born between 1960 and 1980.

They were joined by Padmadharini, making the Triratna team an internationally diverse (if Anglophone) bunch: Bodhipaksha and Padmadharini are British, living in the US: Singhashri is American, living in the UK; Vidyamala is a...

Live Web Talk - Getting Radical, Then And Now

By Rijupatha on Sun, 31 May, 2015 - 17:10

Our new North American Young Buddhists sangha will be taking part with all our sisters and brothers around the world in the International Young Buddhists Weekend from June 5-7th. We’ll be running our first ever event over the Saturday and Sunday and we wanted to share something with everyone who has inspired us to come together in this way.

So we’ve arranged for Parami (who is visiting the U.S. at present) to offer a live web talk and conversation. One of the most experienced...
