Meditation Morning, Tomorrow - 10am (doors open at 9:30am)

Dear Friends,

This morning we woke to a divided UK, with 52% of voters wanting to leave the EU. These are uncertain times, and we don’t know what lies ahead. I suspect that when all is said and done, no one will be unaffected by the outcome.

The first thing I saw on my bedside table after learning the outcome of the vote was the following quote from the Metta Sutta, on the back of...

On June 26, Sheffield Buddhist Centre will join the international Triratna Buddhist Community to demonstrate our desire for peace, and our opposition to nuclear power. Santasiddhi and Christine will lead the event, which may be akin to a ”love-in” as prescribed by  Sangharakshita in his 1984 talk on “Buddhism, World Peace, and Nuclear War” (*).

The meditation will take place in the Great Hall during Summer Fair at 13:15.

In 2016, parliament will vote whether to replace and modernise the UK’s nuclear weapons system called Trident. It’s made up of four submarines – one of which is on...

Posted by Candradasa to Online Meditators on Mon, 20 Jun, 2016 - 19:45

This week we’ll be looking at bridging the gap between imagination and action. In a difficult week around the world with extreme violence near at hand, we’ll be engaging with Metta (loving kindness) as a radical way to connect with others, and calling forth a sense of urgency to explore together how we might help bring forth a more peaceful world. Come and help us build our meditative community, and take a stand for deep kindness and compassion in the...

Imagining The Word

Posted by Candradasa to Online Meditators on Mon, 13 Jun, 2016 - 16:18

This week we’ll be continuing our informal exploration of the role of imagination in Dharma practice - in meditation itself, and in looking at how we respond to whatever arises via the mind and the five senses through the course of our days.

As ever we’ll sit together, we’ll talk and share what moves us. You’re also invited to bring with you any piece of writing that has inspired your own spiritual life. It could be a poem, a passage from literature, a...

Training In A System of Buddhist Practice

Posted by Candradasa to Community Highlights on Wed, 1 Jun, 2016 - 18:34

Dhammamegha recently interviewed Dhammarati for the Triratna International Council about an emerging project around the system of training in Triratna. It goes by the name of Sikkha (with a long a), which is a Pali word meaning ‘spiritual training’. It is about deepening our understanding of what and how we practice and teach within the Triratna community, and developing an explicit shared framework to talk about it.

Here, Dhammarati reflects on what is essential in Buddhist practice: a growth of awareness which leads to positive and rich emotion...
