The 1st June marks the start of Buddhist Action Month, a festival of social action which is being marked by many Buddhist groups across the UK and Europe.  In Triratna, Sanghas across our community have been preparing for this event and incorporating events and activities in their various programmes.

Buddhist Action Month is nearly here. What are you planning?

By Sadayasihi on Fri, 18 May, 2018 - 11:52

June is Buddhist Action Month (BAM) and Triratna Sanghas all over the world have been planning activities as part of this festival of Buddhist social action. Beginning in 2012 as a day, this is a pan-Buddhist initiative from the UK’s Network of Buddhist Organisations

This year we have an invitation to explore two particular angles of ‘transforming self, transforming world’:

transforming self: looking at the effect of digital technology on the well-being of us as individuals and on society

Meeting my selves! By Caroline Ivimey-Parr

By Sanghamani on Mon, 9 Apr, 2018 - 09:56

The phrase “the hardest thing I’d ever have done” is often used to describe appeals. It’s true – I’ve never done something as completely challenging and engaging on every level.

The hardest person for me to meet on the appeal has turned out to be myself. I love meeting strangers; I’m hungry for the connection and I find it much easier to hold rejection from others lightly. Facing up to the everyday ways I’m making my own life harder though is terrifying.

When you...

Transform self and world this BAM with Karuna

By Sanghamani on Wed, 4 Apr, 2018 - 15:47

Hi there…
Sanghamani here!

For this year’s Buddhist Action Month, I’m looking for volunteers to join me for our telephone appeal, based in the Karuna office in North London.

Karuna Appeals give us an opportunity to connect with others and ourselves, all while giving something back to the world. Using metta, sensitivity and awareness, we will work together to transform fear and resistance, exploring how we can remain open when faced with difference.

Our campaigns are perfect conditions to practice engaged Buddhism, a chance to...

Launching the Ulex Project

By guhyapati on Sat, 18 Feb, 2017 - 16:39

The Ulex Project is possibly the most exciting initiative that the Ecodharma team have ever undertaken. Building on years of successfully innovating and developing trainings which integrate inner and social transformation, we are launching a new education centre and training programme. The new Ulex Project training centre will extend Ecodharma’s reach and enable us to support activists and organisers all across Europe.

Europe’s facing some deep social and ecological challenges. There’s a fragmenting political climate and the far right is gaining ground...

The Endless Knot

By Vishvapani on Thu, 12 Jan, 2017 - 10:36

2016 was a year of political upheaval in the UK, the USA and beyond. Are things as bad as we think? Should Buddhists get tangled up in it? Vishvapani investigates

Politics matters. I inherited this belief from my father who discovered it one November evening in 1938 when he made his way home from school in Berlin and saw the synagogue at the end of his street in flames while Nazi Brownshirts cheered and firemen stood and watched....

As we reported at the time, Triratna’s International Council met at Adhisthana in the first week of August.

  • World needs
  • Triratna’s System of Practice and
  • Unity and working with conflict

Over on the International Council space on The Buddhist Centre Online you’ll find Dhammarati’s very beautiful visual summary of the meeting.
