January at Adhisthana

By Caroline I P on Wed, 31 Jan, 2024 - 16:30

It has been a lovely start to the year already. The European Chairs Assembly came for their winter meeting, and it was a great way to kick off 2024; their clear up left the place spotless and you can usually find Maitridevi and a few others playing Bananagrams after dinner (and learn some new words; atavist and quinquereme anyone?).

In community news, Caroline will be going to Akasavana this year and will be ordained by Aryajaya – we look forward to...

Farewell thank you collection for Munisha and Amaladipa

By ECA Safeguarding on Wed, 17 May, 2023 - 09:13

Following yesterday’s post about Munisha and Amaladipa moving on from Safeguarding work in Triratna, here is a message from those raising money to thank them both, and to enable Munisha to have a rest before seeking further employment.

https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/thank-you-to-our-safeguarding-team#start

“Back in 2016, Munisha saw the need for Triratna Centres to comply with legislation around the protection from harm of children and adults. Ably helped by Amaladipa (bringing considerable expertise from a career in the probation service) they pioneered the support for...

Translating 'Sailing the Worldly Winds' into Hebrew

By Viryabodhi on Mon, 28 Nov, 2022 - 08:43

Read Prakashika’s story of translating ‘Sailing the Worldly Winds’ into Hebrew and eventually getting it published.

לשוט עם רוחות העולם – מדריך בודהיסטי לצליחת סערות החיים / וג’רגופטה

Earlier today I finally received my printed copies of the Hebrew translation of Sailing the Worldly Winds – A Buddhist Way through the Ups and Downs of Life by Vajragupta. It’s hard to describe the feeling of flicking through this little book, seeing it stand on its own, after being in the making for some 18 months.

Chairs' Letter – January 2022

By ratnadharini on Mon, 31 Jan, 2022 - 17:31

Dear Order members and friends,

A week or so ago we received news of the death, at the age of 95, of Thich Nhat Hanh, founder of the Order of Interbeing and the Plum Village tradition of Engaged Buddhism, and well known for his teachings on mindfulness, peace and ecology. I still have my copy of ‘The Miracle of Mindfulness’ from 1988, when there were far fewer Dharma publications generally available in the west, and remember how...

Meet the new Triratna Safeguarding team

By Munisha on Wed, 8 Nov, 2017 - 18:21

Safeguarding work in Triratna, in progress since 2013, has developed enormously in the last three months. As the overall Safeguarding officer (Munisha) I’d like to bring you up to date.

Training On 4th October, around 30 Safeguarding officers and trustees from Triratna centres across the UK, and Saddhaloka (Chair of Triratna’s College of Public Preceptors), gathered at the Birmingham Buddhist Centre for our second training day. After last year’s training in child protection, this year we worked on ‘Safeguarding adults’ with the help of an...

FutureDharma Fund supports ongoing appeal for Venezeula crisis

By Aryanisha on Mon, 7 Aug, 2017 - 17:23

Thanks to the generosity of the European Chairs Assembly, in just a few minutes FutureDharma Fund raised £5000 in pledges to help sangha members in Venezuela, whose country is in crisis.

Chairs from Triratna Buddhist Centres across Europe and representatives from major Triratna projects had gathered together at Vajrasana for a 10-day meeting. They were joined by several other Chairs from around the world, including Vajranatha. He is the only Order Member in Venezuela and Chair of Merida Buddhist Centre, supporting a sangha including 22 mitras,...

Day 8 report from the ECA summer meeting

By Munisha on Tue, 25 Jul, 2017 - 15:32

Here in Suffolk, UK, days come and go, the rain pours down, the duck family continues to parade around (see previous report), and the Chairs are still meditating, doing puja, chatting, walking and listening to presentations and small groups.

They’ve looked at the work of Triratna’s Translations Board; members of the College and Adhisthana Kula have visited to explain the work they’re doing to address painful aspects of Triratna’s past; and the ECA’s Safeguarding officer, Munisha, has...

Triratna's European Chairs assemble for summer meeting

By Munisha on Thu, 20 Jul, 2017 - 17:23

For the next week, the extraordinary, redeveloped Vajrasana Retreat Centre in Suffolk plays host to Triratna’s European Chairs’ Assembly. Sixty leaders of European Buddhist centres and enterprises, including retreat centres, are gathered here, with guests from further afield (and a family of ducks), for meditation, ritual, discussion and business, all in the context of spiritual friendship.

See more pictures and follow the meeting over on the ECA’s own space.

The ECA is a very long established and well run...
