By Candradasa on Fri, 18 Sep, 2015 - 19:40

As part of our recent coverage of the Arts event ‘Conscious Surrender to the Beautiful’, which took place at at Adhisthana, we brought you a recording of Sarvananda’s excellent and, at times, hilarious talk ‘Show, Don’t Tell - Communicating the Dharma Through the Arts’.

Usually audio recordings of talks are an ideal way to revisit them - and since Sarvananda is a great radio man (he writes plays for radio in...

By akasajoti on Fri, 4 Sep, 2015 - 14:29

The recent Order weekend in celebration of Sangharakshita’s 90th birthday was a great success - thank you all who came and participated and helped to create such a wonderful gathering. It has had a deeply positive effect on Adhisthana and on all of us here, and is an example of the magic of gathering together in large numbers as a spiritual community. We’re already looking forward to hosting many more large gatherings into the future! You can see posts, talks...

Sahajatara - Apparell'd In Celestial Light

By Candradasa on Sat, 29 Aug, 2015 - 07:34

There was a time when meadow, grove, and stream,
The earth, and every common sight,
To me did seem
Apparell’d in celestial light,
The glory and the freshness of a dream.

Appropriately enough, a talk in a rainstorm! Sahajatara offers a beautiful discourse to close the Conscious Surrender to the Beautiful Arts event. She opens with this short extract from Wordsworth’s ‘Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood’ and a long reading from...

Happy 90th birthday, Bhante!

By Munisha on Tue, 25 Aug, 2015 - 23:18

On this day, 26th August, in 1925, Dennis Philip Edward Lingwood was born in Tooting, south London, UK. His life has changed those of hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.

We know him as Urgyen Sangharakshita, or, simply, “Bhante”: our teacher, founder of the Triratna Buddhist Order and Community; a leading figure in ‘western’ Buddhism and in Dr Ambedkar’s ’Peaceful revolution’ among some of India’s most disadvantaged people. The Order he founded now numbers over 1,900.

Birthday celebrations are taking place in Triratna...

Les 90 ans de Sangharakshita

By Ujumani on Tue, 25 Aug, 2015 - 22:01

Aujourd’hui, Sangharakshita a 90 ans !

Sangharakshita's 90th Birthday Classical Recital

By Candradasa on Sun, 23 Aug, 2015 - 22:03

A beautiful, consistently very fine set of performances from members of the Triratna Buddhist Order to mark the 90th birthday of their teacher Urgyen Sangharakshita. The commitment and playing exemplifies the importance of the Arts in spiritual life, and in Triratna’s emphasis on this as part of a contemporary Buddhist path. Exquisite moments from the ‘Conscious Surrender to the Beautiful Weekend’.

Sarvanananda - Communicating the Dharma Through the Arts: Show Don't Tell

By Candradasa on Sun, 23 Aug, 2015 - 11:38

Be prepared for the unexpected in Sarvananda’s very funny - and by turns wrongfooting - personal exploration of why the Arts are vital to the development of a genuine Buddhist community. Sarvananda discusses as background his attempts to find a synthesis between the Arts and spiritual life, leading to his current work as a successful playwright

But it’s in the three departures from a traditional Dharma talk that we glimpse something else - the crucial show-don’t-tell aspect...

Sangharakshita's Complete Works Appeal Celebration and Book Launch

By Candradasa on Sun, 23 Aug, 2015 - 00:06

At the start of this recording Parami refers to the assembled Order taking part in a Mahayana Sutra. Never was a comment more prescient as the thunder rolls in, the skies pour forth torrents of rain and the shrine marquee is played on like a great drum! Afterwards, rainbows - a fitting way to greet Sangharakshita who joins the throng to celebrate the success of an appeal to fund his Complete Works and to hear Kalyanaprabha...
