Survey: calling Buddhist chaplains in north America!

By Munisha on Thu, 10 Dec, 2020 - 12:58

The Mapping Buddhist Chaplains in North America Research Survey attempts to answer fundamental questions about Buddhist chaplaincy as a professional field. While several universities have been training and graduating Buddhist chaplains—some for more than a decade—there are no clear data on how many and where Buddhist chaplains are currently working.

If you work, volunteer, or are training for any chaplaincy setting (health care, higher ed, corrections, military—or any other sector) and you self-identify as Buddhist, please complete this survey about your work...

ICin5 No.3 - Day One, The Blue Sky and Priorities After Covid

By Centre Team on Mon, 31 Aug, 2020 - 02:40

The first full day of the online International Council. The blue sky is behind us and all around, and we’re with Aryadrishti and Sravaniya from Canada and the USA. In some ways a sobering, if hopeful, take on what a Dharma community has to offer when faced with deep, systemic suffering.

- The Bodhichitta practice as the backdrop to sorrow.
- What Triratna can do to respond in hard times.
- IC priorities in the wake of Covid-19.

From A Vision to A Reality: The Sangha in the US and Canada

By Sadayasihi on Tue, 10 Sep, 2019 - 18:04

An ever-widening circle, the Sangha grows…

From its beginnings in 1980, when Manjuvajra first brought Triratna Dharma to Boston, the Sangha in Canada and the United States has been ever-growing. The current year has seen a number of significant steps forward for the Triratna Buddhist Community’s ordination process in North America.

In May the first ever post-ordination retreat for US/Canadian Dharmacharinis (female Order members) took place with seven of the twelve Dharmacharinis ordained in the last two years attending the...

Two Triratna Order members are among to the contributors to Lotus Petals in the Snow, the first anthology of writings by Canadian Buddhist women: scholars, practitioners, Dharma students, teachers, nuns and laywomen, launched last week.

Aryadhrishti is Canadian and runs the Triratna centre in Portland, USA. She writes about Karma as a spiritual practice of evolution and escape.

Vimalasara, born Black British, recently became an African Canadian and is Chair of Vancouver’s thriving Triratna centre.  She writes about...

Harshaprabha pioneering in Ontario

By Munisha on Sat, 25 Oct, 2014 - 16:32Harshaprabha recently returned to Britain from the latest of many Dharma-teaching visits to Ontario, Canada. He writes:

“This was my best visit so far. I ran newcomers’ sessions in Guelph, Toronto and Goderich. Average newcomer attendance figures of 3, 0 and 7 could have been depressing but old friends turned up and made them rich and engaging occasions. Quite a few would like me to be living there full time to run Dharma classes.

I’ve been visiting Ontario...

Buddhist Voices - Triratna America 2014

By Manidha on Wed, 24 Sep, 2014 - 13:36
A great conversation with six members of the Triratna Buddhist Order from North America at the end of their bi-annual Convention. Karunadevi, Amala, Suddhayu, Viradhamma, and Rijupatha all join our host Manidha for a round-table discussion of what it means to be part of Triratna on this continent in 2014.

Some thoughtful recollections from the early days in the mid-’80s meet a wonderful sense of optimism and gratitude from the present as we consider conditions for practice in the...

Triratna event in Toronto

By lokabandhu on Wed, 2 Oct, 2013 - 13:23Bodhipaksa writes from the States with news of another milestone in the slowly-growing Canadian Triratna Buddhist sangha, saying - “I’m leading a workshop in Toronto on Oct 19 which Harshaprabha and I are hoping to use to kick-start regular Triratna activities in the city. There’s a few people with Triratna backgrounds in Toronto, and others moving there later this year, but so far no Order Member to keep things going. We’re hoping that the two of us, and...
