Dharmabyte: A Perfected Universe, A Perfected Self

From Free Buddhist Audio on Mon, 16 Mar, 2020 - 13:00

A very interesting introduction to the mandala here from Garava - the idea, the myth, the image, the symbol, the experience. His own practice as an artist affords him a respectful and generous perspective, from which we are able to simply sit back and learn.

Excerpted from the talk Entering the Mandala given at Padmaloka Retreat Centre, 2001.

The Community Toolkit for Uncertain Times (group)

From Triratna Resources on Sun, 15 Mar, 2020 - 19:22

Thanks for taking part in our Community Toolkit! What an amazing hub it proved to be for all sorts of creative Dharma engagement during the long months of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns.

This group has now been archived. That means people will no longer be able to join, non-members will be able to see any public posts (all of them!), and members will still be able to see the archived content.

Of course, all of the links below to the daily meditation, live...

FBA Podcast: A Helping Hand

From Free Buddhist Audio on Sat, 14 Mar, 2020 - 13:00

Ratnaghosha reflects on how friendships and connections are woven into the tapestry of his life, how other people give our lives a sense of richness and abundance. In the sangha, people are passing on the Dharma through their relationships – living, breathing Dharma is passed on through spiritual friendship. The Buddha was the original spiritual friend, exemplifying for us that Enlightenment demands communication.

From a series of talks given during the Year of Kalyana Mitrata at the Cambridge Buddhist...

Translating the Dharma into Hebrew

From Triratna News on Fri, 13 Mar, 2020 - 11:09

Accessing the Dharma in your own language can make a significant difference to a person’s ability to practice. The Triratna Translations Board was set up at the end of 2015 to promote and coordinate translation projects in many languages and have enabled the translations of many Triratna books.

The latest of these is What is the Dharma by Sangharakshita, which has now been translated into Hebrew.

Prakashika, born in Israel, but now living in Australia,...

Dharmabyte: The Mandala Unifies Disintegration

From Free Buddhist Audio on Thu, 12 Mar, 2020 - 13:00

We can find mandalas everywhere – in the East, in the West, in art, literature, even in dreams. Mandalas represent a resolution, or the beginnings of a resolution, of a conflict between the conscious and the unconscious.

Sangharakshita explores the symbolism of the mandala, circles of symbolic forms, found in the The Tantras (special scriptures of Vajrayana Buddhism) as a symbol of psychological and spiritual integration.

Excerpted from the talk entilted The Mandala – Tantric Symbol of Integration as part...

Combined Order Convention - coronavirus update

From Order Connection on Wed, 11 Mar, 2020 - 15:59

We are aware that some people understandably may feel uncertain about attending the convention(s) this year due to the Coronavirus (Covid 19) outbreak.

We are still planning for the conventions to go ahead as normal, but we will make another assessment and announce an update on Monday 13th April.

In the meanwhile, you can still find information and book for the convention at https://thebuddhistcentre.com/stories/order/international-convention-2020/

We recommend buying travel insurance (covered against cancellation) at the same time as any expensive travel tickets.

Dharmabytes: The Strength of Nothing Hidden

From Free Buddhist Audio on Mon, 24 Feb, 2020 - 14:00

We often think that our best defense is to protect ourselves with a barrier between ourselves and the world. On the contrary, the dakini has the complete realization that in the end there is nothing to defend. In enlightenment all we were ever defending was a pattern of defensiveness, you realize there was nothing to defend.

From the talk entitled The Dakini & the Skull Garland by Subhadramati given at London Buddhist Centre, 2020.

Tantric Buddhism is concerned with the...
