Natural Dharma

To begin the  UK Buddhist Action Month in Sheffield we are offering a cycle of the ‘Work that Reconnects.’

The central teaching of the Buddha, pratitya-samutpada, means we never act in isolation; our actions will always have consequences.

Drawing on the Dharma, the Work that Reconnects strengthens our capacity to see those connections and to act effectively and sustainably in a deeply troubled world.

This is the first Sheffield event to take place in Kuladitya and Cecilia’s yurt and woodland in the Peak District, fantastic!

Aspects of Going For Refuge

From Cambridge Buddhist Centre on Fri, 1 Apr, 2016 - 00:00
In this short series given at the Cambridge Buddhist Centre in early 2016, Vessantara explores Sangharakshitas idea that fundamentally there is one spiritual experience, which has different aspects that we can unfold. All the talks are linked together not only through ideas, but also through a thread of stories and imagery related to the Pacific Ocean. Talk 1: Wayfinding: the Volitional Aspect. This first talk looks at going for refuge to the Three Jewels, which is the central aspect. Talk 2: The Empty Boat: the Insight Aspect. This second talk covers deepening insight into the nature of things, from reflection to direct experience, stream entry and beyond. Talk 3: Ferrying Across: the Altruistic Aspect. This third talk is all about love and compassion, and how it flowers in the arising of Bodhicitta. Talk 4: Steering for the Deep: the Awareness Aspect. This final one explores how to contact and influence deeper levels of mind, culminating in the turning about of the basis, the transformation of the deepest level of mind.

Our next topic will be the Noble Eightfold Path

From Triratna Thames Valley and Reading on Sun, 27 Mar, 2016 - 17:33

From Tuesday 5th April for eight weeks we will be looking at the Noble Eightfold Path, the path from suffering to happiness.

Each of the eight begins with the word ‘Samma’ most usually translated as ‘Right-‘. The Pali word also denotes wholesome, wise, skillful or ideal.

Right view or vision

Right intention

Right speech

Right action

Right livliehood

Right effort

Right mindfulness

Right concentration or focus

The eight are not sequential but to be practiced as the capacity and circumstances of the individual allows.

These eight can be seen as a way to challenge and change established behaviours leading to a more...
