By Centre Team on Tue, 23 May, 2023 - 17:28

Buddhist Action Month (BAM) has been a feature at Triratna Centres over the past decade or so. And now we have news of BAM 2023 from the organising team at the Network of Buddhist Organizations.

Get involved with BAM 2023!

What will you do for BAM 2023?
Perhaps you’ll take stock of the compassionate action that we are already doing. Perhaps you’ll ask how can we refine or supercharge those actions. Perhaps you’ll try something new.

Triratna Sanghas and the Earth Strike

By Sadayasihi on Tue, 1 Oct, 2019 - 15:38

“I felt my interconnectedness with all beings and that somehow what we were doing was intensely worthwhile.“ - Lilamati, Sheffield Earth Strike Street Meditation

Members of Triratna sanghas across the globe came out in support of the ‘Earth Strike’ on Friday 20th September. In 2018, schoolchildren began walking out of school in protest at global inaction around climate change. This year, the youth climate activists called on adults to support them at an Earth Strike, on 20th September 2019. They did: millions from across the world demonstrated...

5 Years of the Buddhist Centre Online: #10 Revived Indian Buddhism

By Sadayasihi on Thu, 25 Oct, 2018 - 22:53

“The greatest thing the Buddha has done is to tell the world that the world cannot be reformed except by the reformation of the mind of man and the mind of the world.” - Dr Ambedkar

Around the seventh century BCE Buddhism began to go into decline in India, the land of its birth. It was only in the late nineteenth century that it began to be revived: firstly, through the work of institutions such as the Maha Bodhi Society, which was...

5 Years Of The Buddhist Centre Online: #6 Engaged Buddhism

It is not enough to be compassionate. You must act. There are two aspects to action. One is to overcome the distortions and afflictions of your own mind, that is, in terms of calming and eventually dispelling anger. This is action out of compassion. The other is more social, more public. When something needs to be done in the world to rectify the wrongs, if one is really concerned with benefiting others, one needs to be engaged, involved.” - The Dalai Lama

Transforming World at the Wellington Buddhist Centre

By saradarshini on Wed, 18 Jul, 2018 - 01:34

  • The world we envision for the future is one where the arts are paramount, myth and legend carry our inspiration above the material world; appreciation and gratitude are valued over ownership and rights

The Endless Knot

By Vishvapani on Thu, 12 Jan, 2017 - 10:36

2016 was a year of political upheaval in the UK, the USA and beyond. Are things as bad as we think? Should Buddhists get tangled up in it? Vishvapani investigates

Politics matters. I inherited this belief from my father who discovered it one November evening in 1938 when he made his way home from school in Berlin and saw the synagogue at the end of his street in flames while Nazi Brownshirts cheered and firemen stood and watched....

The World on Fire: Buddhism in the modern world

By Nandavajra on Wed, 27 May, 2015 - 09:35

6pm Friday 26 June - 3pm Tuesday 30 June 2015 at Adhisthana

The Buddha said the world was “on fire” – burning with greed, hatred, and delusion. What have today’s Buddhists got to say about the state of the modern world, or about the contribution Buddhism can make to improving it? Vaddhaka (whose book on Buddhism and Capitalism - The Buddha On Wall Street - has just been published) will present and compare the ideas of some contemporary Buddhist thinkers,...
