Sangharakshita: The Poetry Interviews

By Munisha on Tue, 13 Jun, 2017 - 10:29

Kalyanaprabha is one of Sangharakshita’s two literary editors. (The other is Vidyadevi.) She writes to tell us about a new set of interviews with him, about his poetry.

“Recently there appeared on Sangharakshita’s website a link to some rather unusual interviews on The Buddhist Centre Online: over 10 separate sessions, Saddhanandi* interviews Sangharakshita about 10 of his poems.

Each interview opens with a sensitive reading of the poem by Saddhanandi and then...

Sangharakshita's Diary

By Munisha on Wed, 7 Jun, 2017 - 11:24

Sthanashraddha is Bhante’s secretary. He writes:

“May has been a month of large changes around the Adhisthana land. Diggers and dumper trucks have been shifting tons of earth around for some of our largest works since opening. Inside the buildings there has also been much work taking place in several areas, not least in the shrine room where the shrine is undergoing a major transformation. Even though the machines have been rumbling away most of the month there...

Some Divinity Shaping our Ends

Some Divinity Shaping our Ends

By Maitreyabandhu on Mon, 1 Aug, 2016 - 12:33

The poet Robert Frost had a sense that meaning was to be found neither in the supernatural (God) nor in the intimately psychological (the self), but transcended these distinctions. Maitreyabandhu investigates.

‘The interest, the pastime, was to learn if there had been any divinity shaping my ends and I had been building better than I knew.’

   –  Robert Frost in the preface to a selection of his poems, 1942

Other people’s confidence can astound me. They often seem to know who they are and what...

Sangharakshita's diary

By Munisha on Wed, 15 Jun, 2016 - 23:42

Sthanashraddha is Sangharakshita’s secretary. He writes:

“Looking out of the window here in the annexe and seeing the trees now in full leaf it’s hard to imagine they were so bare and stark but a couple of months ago. Our late spring is rushing headlong into summer and the great field has had two or three cuts now, in almost as many weeks. Plants and flowers are emerging everywhere and while the cuckoo was heard here last month, now morning walks and tea breaks are accompanied...

Sangharakshita's diary

By Munisha on Mon, 2 May, 2016 - 10:41

Sthanashraddha is Sangharakshita’s secretary.

He writes: “Spring has been bursting forth here at Adhisthana during April. The oaks are coming into their lime green fresh mantles and the copper beech are sprouting, while the ducklings are finally hatching out! Just the other day Bhante heard the first cuckoo call while sitting out by the pond with Buddhadasa, and he tells me that there are primroses and violets in flower by the path he takes to the pond, while further afield...

Introductory Talk: Parami - Living In The Greater Mandala

By parami on Fri, 20 Nov, 2015 - 12:15

Parami gives the introductory talk for the 2015 Triratna International Urban Retreat live in Adelaide, Australia. Her theme - and the theme of the whole retreat - is ‘Living in the Greater Mandala’, and she brings this alive in the most human, poetic, and inspired of ways.

Her range is broad as she evokes the mandala itself, and the profound, playful path of the Bodhisattva. Calling forth Rumi and Hafiz, the great Buddhist Perfection of Wisdom texts, Keats, Yeats, Robert...

Stop, Look and See What Arises

By sheena on Sun, 27 Sep, 2015 - 15:30

I really loved hearing Amaragita’s welcome to the retreat. I also found it painful. I experienced envy and jealousy. A hunger to ‘intervene in [my] life as usual’ and ‘untangle [my] existential knots’. I resonated with her description of a sense of needing to stop; of everything shouting ‘stop’!

I have stopped a few times today. I woke early to meditate and check in to the retreat. Instead both my children woke early too. I...

We’ll bring you soon Dhivan’s brilliant talk on Ted Hughes, and hopefully too the poetry reading from Vishvantara, Ananda & Manjusura. We also had time to install some “poem-flags” in the Sangharakshita Library - detailed pictures to follow!
