Ricardo Rico becomes Acalamati, a Sanskrit name meaning “He who has an unwavering mind”.
Westernised spelling: Achalamati.
Private Preceptor: Nagapriya.

Bruno Mendosa Valdés becomes Ruciramati, a Sanskrit name meaning “He who has a brilliant and radiant mind”.
Westernised spelling: Ruchiramati.

We are pleased to announce the recent ordination celebrated at Adhisthana on Thursday 28th February 2019. Helen Rey from the Seattle Sangha becomes Prasadadhi (long second ‘a’ and long ‘i’), a Sanskrit name meaning ‘She whose Wisdom is clear, bright, pure.’ Punyamala was both Private and Public Preceptor. 🎉

It was great - and fitting! - to have Ananda’s help in putting up the Fifty Years, Fifty Voices exhibition in the Adhisthana library just after the Blake retreat last month.  Here he is hanging a photo we’ve used of the first ordinations in 1968 - tho’ unfortunately he’s not actually in that image himself.  Huge thanks to Dhammarati for fitting in the design work on this - and doing such a fab job, as ever - amidst his myriad other tasks

Notable ordination statistics for 2017

The twin ordination ceremonies held in India on 17th December 2017 saw the entry of 68 people to the Order (21 women and 47 men); the largest number of people to enter the Order on one day in the Order’s 50 years.

There were 146 ordinations worldwide in 2017 (73 women and 73 men). This is the largest number of people to have entered the Order in one year.

2017 also saw 16 resignations (8 women and 8 men).
