Money Awakening Retreat

By Liz_Bassett on Fri, 15 Jul, 2016 - 14:54

In May Amalavajra ran a Money Awakening Retreat at Adhisthana.  Participants from the UK, Europe and Mexico spent a weekend together reflecting on their relationship with money.  Through meditation, puja and workshops they explored how we earn, spend, save and donate our money, and learnt how our relationship with money is part of our spiritual life.  Meditating on the Buddha Ratnasambhava, retreat participants were encouraged to focus on the 3rd and 2nd precepts: Live Simpler, Give More

Awakening money by giving more

More ideas from Amalavajra, Triratna’s European fundraiser, for reviewing your relationship with money.

“The second Buddhist precept is ‘With open-handed generosity I purify my body.’

  • Recognise the abundance you enjoy by writing down at the end of each day five things you have been given. (Even a bus ride counts!)
  • ‘Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.’ (Howard Thurman) Take seriously that dreamwork (for

Amalavajra, Triratna’s European fundraiser writes with further ideas for looking at your relationship to money.

  • Meditate every day for the rest of June to gain the stillness and clarity to know what matters to you. Committing to a regular slot, eg 20 minutes first thing each morning, helps to actually do this. Try this led meditation.
  • Sit comfortably and do nothing more than watch the birds or clouds, or drink a
