25 years ago, on Sangha Day, November 1995, the Amsterdam Buddhist Centre officially opened its doors - the first long-term Triratna centre in the Lowlands.

We are very happy to announce the Public Ordination of ex-Sandra Lanckman from the Ghent Sangha, Belgium, at Metta Vihara, Holland, today November 2nd, 2020.

Sandra becomes Maitrivirya (long second and third ‘i’, long final ‘a’) a Sanskrit name meaning ‘she who has the energy of love’

Tarini was the Private Preceptor and Kulanandi the Public Preceptor.

Metta Vihara, the retreat centre for Belgium and the Netherlands, opened in 2012. To help fund that project they asked a bulb grower to create a tulip, which was named Urgyen, after Sangharakshita, the founder of the Triratna Buddhist Order and community.

Now the grower has stopped producing it but a Triratna friend, Kees van den Berg, son of a Dutch bulb grower himself, has collected some 18 remaining bulbs and over the coming years is going to restart...

From the 10th to the 13th May 2018 the Dutch and the Belgian Sanghas are holding an Order-Mitra Convention at the Dutch retreat centre Metta Vihara, to which they have invited some Mitras from the Hungarian gypsy community. First mainland European Going For Refuge retreat for women

This September, the Tiratanaloka team from Wales, UK, will join Order members from continental Europe to run an international ‘Going For Refuge’ retreat for women on mainland Europe for the first time.
