Building a Better Future (One World, One Sangha)

By Liz_Bassett on Mon, 25 Oct, 2021 - 05:00

Yesterday we featured Kusaladevi’s fundraising support work that helped so many of our local Buddhist Centres not only survive the pandemic but thrive. We didn’t just want Triratna to survive - we wanted to help it continue to grow and reach out to more people.

The Triratna York Buddhist Group UK reached out to us and asked for help to convert an old empty shop and create York’s first Buddhist Centre. As they were planning to do this at a time when...

Keeping our Buddhist Centres Thriving (One World, One Sangha)

By Liz_Bassett on Sun, 24 Oct, 2021 - 05:00

Yesterday we featured the work our fabulous Triratna Translations Board are doing to to ensure that everyone can benefit from Dharma talks online. Talking about all the many different languages in which members of our Triratna sangha practice reminded me of the preciousness of our local contexts.

Our International Sangha is of course made up of the net of Triratna’s local sanghas. Without these there is no International Sangha.

As soon as the Covid pandemic took hold FutureDharma committed to helping Triratna get online. Alongside this we...

Are we speaking the same language? (One World, One Sangha)

By Liz_Bassett on Sat, 23 Oct, 2021 - 05:00

In our last stories we shared how Alex in Brazil, Zoe in Singapore, and Celia in New Zealand practice in our Sangha online from very different contexts. What they all have in common is being able to participate in classes and practice days in English. But what if you don’t speak English?

Our fantastic Triratna Translation Board already translate Dharma books into many languages of course. And in the last 18 months they’ve thrown themselves into our new online environment - Perhaps you heard them translating...

From Ireland to New Zealand and back again (One World, One Sangha)

From Ireland to New Zealand and back again (One World, One Sangha)

By Liz_Bassett on Fri, 22 Oct, 2021 - 05:00

Although she’s originally from New Zealand, Celia has lived in Dublin for 14 years. She’s a member of the Dublin Sangha and loves the Dharma classes there.

In spring 2020 Celia travelled to New Zealand on what she thought would be a 2-week trip to see her family. But New Zealand went into lockdown and she found herself stranded on the other side of the world from her life back in Dublin, Ireland.

It was a really tough time for Celia. She needed to find...

When your local sangha is online (One World, One Sangha)

When your local sangha is online (One World, One Sangha)

By Liz_Bassett on Thu, 21 Oct, 2021 - 05:00

In yesterday’s post we shared Alex’s experience of being able to reach out online, along with his sangha in Brazil, and practice with our international Sangha.

Zoe lives in Singapore, and unlike Alex, doesn’t have a local sangha. In fact Zoe is the only practising member of Triratna in Singapore. Her nearest sanghas are in Australia and India! Despite this Zoe is a Mitra and is training for Ordination.

We all know the importance of having a local sangha where we can study and practice and share...

Being part of our International Sangha (One World, One Sangha)

By Liz_Bassett on Wed, 20 Oct, 2021 - 05:00

Alex lives in Sao Paulo Brazil. He loves being part his sangha and helps Manjupriya, the only Order member in Brazil, run their activities. Theirs is the only Triratna sangha in Brazil. In fact their nearest neighbours are our Sangha in Merida, Venezuela - 2,700 miles away!

Being able to take part in International Sangha Day: A Festival of Light was an unexpected and precious opportunity for Alex and his sangha. It’s not possible for him to travel from Brazil to go on...

A Dharma Toolkit for Uncertain Times (One World, One Sangha)

A Dharma Toolkit for Uncertain Times (One World, One Sangha)

By Liz_Bassett on Tue, 19 Oct, 2021 - 05:00

When the pandemic hit in spring 2020 many of us went into immediate lockdowns. As our local Buddhist Centres were forced to close their doors many worked with tremendous resource and ingenuity to move their sanghas online. It really was incredible to see.

The Buddhist Centre Online team responded with a gift to our Sangha in the form of the Dharma Toolkit for Uncertain Times. This almost magical resource of podcasts, talks, retreats, courses, and live meditation sessions...

The Rote Burg – A new retreat centre for the Berlin Sangha and beyond

By Sadayasihi on Tue, 9 Feb, 2021 - 09:58

In the middle of a nature park surrounded by meadows and lakes, only 60 kilometres north of Berlin, lies the so-called “Rote Burg“ (Red Castle): two old Ziegler buildings with about 850 square metres of floor space and surrounded by 37,000 square metres of meadows and oak forest.

In July 2020, Aryabandhu, Chairman of the Berlin Buddhist Centre, signed the purchase contract for the Rote Burg. This step was preceded by more than two years of intensive...

By Karuna on Fri, 20 Nov, 2020 - 17:18

I am delighted to announce that, thanks to all our supporters, we have beaten our Coronavirus Crisis Appeal target of £500,000!

Thank you to everyone who got involved. To see the very real impact donations have already had, please watch the short video.

These are just a few of the thousands of people we’ve already reached with emergency supplies and will continue to support.

Still more have received educational support while schools are shut, livelihood training while jobs are sparse, and health supplies to keep their families safe during this crisis. Thanks again...

Fundraising for å book on sustainability and mindfulness from a buddhist perspective

By gunaketu on Wed, 4 Nov, 2020 - 12:40

I am Gunaketu and I am inspired to do more to help build “a new society” - based on truthfulness and sustainability - so very much in demand these days!

After helping build the Manchester Buddhist Centre I started the Oslo Buddhistsenter in 2000 which is now a thriving little centre with 9 men and women preparing for ordination.

To help promote social and ecological sustainability I want to write a doctorial thesis and a book. It will combine six articles already published and compare...
