Me and Babies by Dhammadinna

By Dhammadinna on Sun, 21 Jan, 2018 - 10:00

This is my personal story of my decision, as a Dharmacharini, as to whether or not to have a baby. It is explored within the mores (conventions) of the time in Triratna.

I was 20 years old, and in my last year at University, when I became accidentally pregnant. I knew that I did not want a child at that point in my life. I had thought, however, since I was a child playing with my dollies, that I would have children...

Dharma Life - Family Life

By saddhaloka on Fri, 19 Jan, 2018 - 17:31

One of the tasks the Adhisthana Kula set itself was to encourage people within Triratna to take a fresh look at some of those areas of practice and lifestyle that have been of real value and importance, and which sometimes have been put forward in an unhelpful way.

We look to build an Order and movement in which anyone who sincerely wishes to commit themselves to the Three Jewels can find a place and have something to give, whatever their...

On our last full day we heard from Triratna Hungary, with a presentation from mitra Tibor Derdak of the Dr Ambedkar High School, which offers gypsy girls and boys a way out of poverty and discrimination. As he said, quoting Subhuti, if the Buddha were to walk down the street in Hungary today, everyone would assume he was a gypsy.

Dhammamegha gave us an excellent talk on the importance of sangha and friendship: ‘Wisdom’s gathering: the difference that...

It being Bhante Sangharakshita’s 92nd birthday, at 10.45am all were assembled in the Adhisthana courtyard. As we waited we chanted the mantra sabbe satta sukkhi hontu (May all beings be well and happy!) Paramartha helped Bhante towards a chair, we sang Happy Birthday, he blew out the candles on a very small cake presented by Zoe Lim (the only mitra in Singapore) and Dhiraprabha presented him with a giant roll of birthday greetings from us.

Today, following on from the previous day’s slot focusing on...

Friday at the International Gathering

By Munisha on Fri, 25 Aug, 2017 - 22:08

It’s been a lively, warm and sunny day here in Herefordshire, UK. Our numbers swelled to around 330 by the end of a well-spent day.

The shrine tent was impressively full for 7am meditation, well rewarded by the efforts of the Sheffield Porridge Team, who cooked porridge for 200. Later in the morning the Polish sangha introduced themselves, after which Prajnaketu, Young Buddhist Co-ordinator, gave the morning’s excellent talk (without notes), entitled “The Return of the Bodhisattva”. You can listen to it...

"What the world needs now": Triratna's International Gathering kicks off!

By Munisha on Fri, 25 Aug, 2017 - 09:16

Adhisthana plays host to Triratna’s International Gathering 2017 this weekend, with around 330 Friends, Mitras and Order members from at least 10 countries spending a long weekend together in many languages. Our theme is ‘What the world needs now”.

It’s a family-friendly event, with children running merrily around the place, enjoying a children’s tent, special activities and storytelling in the shrine tent each evening before the puja. There are workshops, a choir, beginners’ classes, talks, meditation, food… and friendship.

Launch of new online space for Triratna Buddhist Families

By Aryanisha on Tue, 8 Aug, 2017 - 13:36

We recently launched a new space for Triratna Buddhist Families.

The Triratna Buddhist Parents Network Facebook page has been providing invaluable support for many parents practising in Triratna. In response to recent discussions on that group, our own Rijupatha on the The Buddhist Centre Online team (and dad of two), has set up a project space on our website to:

  • Provide further opportunities for children, parents (and grandparents!) to connect and network to discuss their Dharma lives within Triratna.
  • Provide helpful resources for family Dharma
  • ...

Beginnings

Ten years ago – my son Gowan then just three months old – I started meeting with other new mothers in the LBC library on a Wednesday morning. We would meditate and talk whilst our babies slept or rolled around on the floor together. Whether we were exploring metta, impermanence, the preciousness of human life or the simple need for more sleep it was a blessing and a relief to be...

Interkula Parenting Questionnaire

By Centre Team on Thu, 3 Aug, 2017 - 15:53

The Interkula group, whose goal is to assist and work closely with the Adhisthana Kula in discussion about various Triratna community topics, has recently put out an online survey for parents and children in the Triratna Community about their experiences. You can take the survey yourself by visiting this link and contributing your experiences to the discussion!

This is an opportunity for you to share what has worked and what hasn’t worked in your local situation, or...
