Amalavajra becomes chair of WLBC

By maitripushpa on Tue, 15 Oct, 2024 - 11:46

We are delighted to announce that Amalavajra has become the new chair of the West London Buddhist Centre. This followed consultation with our former chair Bodhilila, our President Subhadassi, the Leadership Team, sangha and the WLBC Trustees.

Amalavajra was introduced to Buddhism and meditation by Triratna Order members in 1995 in Kathmandu, Nepal, just before beginning work as a bond dealer. Three years later, he joined Karuna Trust, Triratna’s charity focusing on caste based poverty in South Asia, and trained as...

Message from Bodhilila

By maitripushpa on Thu, 22 Aug, 2024 - 15:53

Dear Sangha Friends

It is over 3 months since I shared news of my cancer diagnosis, just before I went to hospital for major abdominal surgery. I had been told that the extent of the surgery could not be determined until they began operating and in fact it proved to be more extensive than planned, lasting five and a half hours and including a bowel resection, removal of my appendix, omentum and spleen and a lot more. I was fortunate to have...

Chairs' Letter – July 2022

By ratnadharini on Sun, 31 Jul, 2022 - 23:49

Dear Order Members and Friends,

This month we hear from two of my deputy-chairs, Punyamala and Jnanavaca, who have recently arrived back from leading Ordination courses at Akashavana and Guhyaloka.

With metta,
Ratnadharini

From Punyamala:

It has been my great good fortune to spend the last 11 weeks at Akashavana, the forest retreat of luminous space, leading an international ordination retreat during which 18 women entered the Order.

It feels foolhardy to attempt...

New Chair wanted for Brighton

By Development Team on Tue, 21 Jan, 2020 - 16:04

Subhadassi has decided that he will step down as Chair of Brighton Buddhist Centre this summer.

The Centre is in a period of change, with some new initiatives in process and others that are still at the planning stage.  Amongst those that are already thriving are the young peoples group and weekly Dharma Night.

We are looking to find a new chair with the energy and enthusiasm to continue moving the centre forward. There are many elements of our situation that will be...

The Preceptors’ College Chair Handover

By Amaradaya on Wed, 15 Jan, 2020 - 13:19

The annual international meeting of the Preceptors’ College took place from the 4th to the 14th November, 2019. It was Saddhaloka’s final meeting as Chair after almost five years of service, and half-way through the meeting he handed over to Ratnadharini, the incoming Chair, marking the transition with a ritual and rejoicings. Here we capture the handover ceremony and extracts from interviews with Saddhaloka and Ratnadharini.

Aryanita becomes Chair of the Paris Buddhist Centre

By Sadayasihi on Tue, 29 Jan, 2019 - 17:25

Ujumani from the Paris Buddhist Centre writes: “After 11 years, Vassika has handed on the chairmanship of the Paris Buddhist Centre to Aryanita. Many people gathered on Sunday 27th January at the Buddhist Centre to celebrate this change - people from Brussels, England, the Alps, Clermont-Ferrand, the Mediterranean coast and, of course, from Paris and its region - including friends of the Centre from long ago, some of whom had not been to the Centre for a long...
