This full moon - the 10th May - we celebrated Wesak (often called Buddha Day). Find out how sanghas around the world marked the occasion - the occasion that unites all of us in our practice as Buddhists, despite the physical distance between us and diverse backgrounds.

Mercredi dernier, c’était la pleine lune de mai, le jour où dans tout le monde bouddhiste l’on célèbre l’Éveil du Bouddha.

A Paris, nous l’avons célébré différemment des années précédentes, non pas le dimanche le plus proche, mais le jour même. Nous avons commencé par une méditation à 7h du matin, pour permettre à ceux qui travaillent de venir avant leur journée. Puis un petit déjeuner partagé, suivie une matinée de lecture d’extraits du Lalilavistara, un long soûtra du Mahâyâna...

On Buddha Day, May 22, 2016, we welcomed four more mitras into the Triratna Mitra Sangha here in Mexico witnessed by around 100 people.

Paul´s mother, Sabine, is already a mitra within our community and Rodrigo is just 15. We don´t know but he may be the youngest mitra in the world…

Ipswich Buddhist Centre celebrates Buddha Day

Ipswich Buddhist Centre celebrated Buddha Day with a day of activities organised in the town’s Christchurch Park. 

The Reg Driver Visitors Centre hosted the event, to celebrate the day on which, over 2,500 years ago, the Buddha gained enlightenment.

There was a good turnout from the sangha, with a beautiful shine which included rupas from many of the sangha members.

The following is the text of an introductory talk given at the commencement of the Walk in the Footsteps of the Buddha retreat incorporating the Buddha Day Festival at Vijayaloka Retreat centre.

Two and a half thousand years ago far away in the Ganges Valley, during the full moon in May, the world changed completely: an Awakened being arose in the world. Siddhatha Gautama become the Buddha.
