Teaching Emptiness Respectfully with Happiness Flowing from Clouds of Merit

In his final talk exploring the Bodhicaryavatara, Padmavajra introduces us to Shantideva’s exposition of the Prajnaparamita, the Perfection of Wisdom. Here, Shantideva tells us about the two truths, the conventional and the ultimate, as well as of the true meaning emptiness, which is the cure for the terrible sufferings that we undergo. In doing this he gives us a glimpse of the Bodhisattva “respectfully teaching emptiness … to those who imagine a...

For Nothing Is Fixed - Getting Real with Viveka and Paramananda, Episode 1

From The Community Toolkit for Uncertain Times on Tue, 2 Jun, 2020 - 02:16

For Nothing Is Fixed

For nothing is fixed,
forever, forever, forever,
it is not fixed;
the earth is always shifting,
the light is always changing,
the sea does not cease to grind down rock.
Generations do not cease to be born,
and we are responsible to them
because we are the only witnesses they have.
The sea rises, the light fails,
lovers cling to each other,
and children cling to us.

You don’t have to justify yourself by being useful. You yourself are the justification for your existence.”
Sangharakshita, Wisdom Beyond Words

In this talk, Vajrapriya explores how this quote by Sangharakshita might affect our spiritual life and practice. Using the terms doing and being, he suggests how we can bring greater stillness into activity, and vibrant energy into calm.

From the talk The Greater Mandala of Uselessness given at ...

June book sale at Windhorse Publications

From The Community Toolkit for Uncertain Times on Mon, 1 Jun, 2020 - 12:59

Lockdown rules are changing for some of us. So perhaps there’s not quite so much staying at home involved this month’s Stay at Home Sale. We have chosen a range of books to offer resources and inspiration in this transition time.

To continue the ‘For the Earth’ theme of Buddhist Action Month, we’ve got what I think is the only one of our books to be written by a vet. Bodhipaksa’s Vegetarianism: A Buddhist View, is reduced...
