Women's Community in Bristol

From Jobs, Volunteering & Communities on Sun, 21 Nov, 2021 - 17:01

Hello Sangha!

We are Ella, Dayajoti, and Amber of Kalyanaloka, a Triratna Women’s Community which has been established in Bristol for 5 years. Please see our lovely flyer attached to this post!

We would love to welcome a new order member or mitra into our community, which is built on the foundation of our friendship and shared practice. We have community time and meditate together in our dedicated shrine room.

Some of our rejoicings in life at Kalyanaloka are feeling witnessed in how our life and practice unfold,...

Weaving in poetry and real life examples, Punyamala looks at the question of how to stay open in the midst of impermanence and death, without falling into despondency. Punyamala describes how she has sought to live a meaningful life, fully open to reality.

This talk was given on an ordination training retreat at Tiratanaloka Retreat Centre, 2019.

New community house in Hastings

From Jobs, Volunteering & Communities on Thu, 18 Nov, 2021 - 11:21

Hi, we’re Rowan and Frances and we are looking for 2 to 3 people to join us in a new community house in Hastings. We moved to Hastings from London last March to a lovely house right on the edge of Hastings Country Park nature reserve, 15 minutes walk from Old Town and the sea. This summer we managed to buy the next door house (as a buy to let) with the vision of creating a community between the two...

Dharmabyte: A Weak Spot in Reality

From Free Buddhist Audio on Thu, 18 Nov, 2021 - 06:00

Maitreyabandhu reminds us that the Buddha was cautious to describe things that were best directly experienced. The Lakshanas are not a metaphysical description of reality. Impermanence, insubstantiality and suffering show us there is something wrong with our perception.

A question around the far enemy/enemies of Upekkha

A question around the far enemy/enemies of Upekkha

From Ask A Scholar! on Wed, 17 Nov, 2021 - 16:55

This is a request for some clarification around what I perceive as an anomaly in our Triratna teaching on upekkha, as the fourth of the brahma viharas; possibly this is an anomaly in the Buddhist tradition as a whole, and not just Triratna.

I am basing my question on the sections elaborating upekkha in the following: Kamalashila’s book Buddhist Meditation, Tejananda’s notes on the brahma viharas, and the course notes on the same in the fourth year of Dharma Training Course (the...

Dharmabyte: Being in Connection with Other Beings

From Free Buddhist Audio on Mon, 15 Nov, 2021 - 06:00

Parami touches on aspects of Sangharakshita’s ‘system of meditation’, and most specifically the area of positive emotion. Parami is an ideal guide for this sort of material, steeped as she is in study and practice engaged within the light of the ‘Bodhichitta’, and the Bodhisattva Ideal itself.

Sjaelvupptaeckt I Det Andliga Livet

From Stockholms buddhistcenter on Sun, 14 Nov, 2021 - 00:00
The Three Myths in the Spiritual Life", publicerad i Madyamavani. Kvällen inleds med 12 minuter meditation, sedan kommer föredraget. Efter det ges en kort förklaring av Vajrasattvamantrat och kvällen avslutas med recitation av mantrat och en kort meditation.
