Amalavajra - Your Money or Your Life

From Free Buddhist Audio on Tue, 26 Oct, 2021 - 17:30

Money makes for wonderful means but terrible ends. If we focus our life a mere symbol of relative value then we risk alienating ourselves from the very things we seek - love, meaning and rich experience. Could money instead be a means to not just a better world, but to Enlightenment itself?

Amalavajra is an ex-City broker turned fundraiser. This talk was given to a public audience as part of the June 2014 ‘BAM’ series: ...

Live and work at Vajrasana Retreat Centre: two new roles...

From Jobs, Volunteering & Communities on Tue, 2 Nov, 2021 - 14:51

Vajrasana Retreat Centre in Suffolk has an exciting opportunity for two men to join the residential community. Successful applicants will be part of the team who look after this beautiful centre and the thousands of people who come on retreat every year.

The ideal candidates would be GFR mitras, although we would happily consider other mitras and Order members too. The growing community at Vajrasana (up to five) is a place of Sangha and kalyana mitrata. The London Buddhist Centre supports...

Naming and Taming - Padmasambhava and the Feast of Transformation

From Padmaloka Retreat Centre on Mon, 1 Nov, 2021 - 00:00
In this talk given to the men at Padmaloka during the Autumn Great Gathering 2021, Bodhinaga explores the myth of Padmasambhava arriving in Tibet, at the invitation of the King, to establish the Dharma at Samye. When he meets the King of Tibet, Padmasambhava refuses to bow. Then he transforms the demons of Tibet, getting them to help rather than oppose the construction of Samye Monastery. Bodhinaga asks us: What do we serve in our life? What are our inner demons? And how can we use their energy for the Dharma? This talk is the first part of the series: Padmasambhava - the Master for Troubled Times.

One World, One Sangha - What’s Triratna done for me?

From Future Dharma on Sun, 31 Oct, 2021 - 11:30

I first went to the Glasgow Buddhist Centre in 2008. My life was ok, but I was looking for more meaning - something I could put all my energies into. I was going in circles. Sinhacandra, the Order member teaching meditation, reached out to me with kindness. And that made all the difference.

I still kept changing relationships and homes, struggling to get a foothold. The Buddhists seemed to know how to work with change though. And Mitra study helped me connect...

FBA Podcast: Spiritual Death - Spiritual Rebirth

From Free Buddhist Audio on Sat, 30 Oct, 2021 - 06:00

Padmavajra offers a deep set of reflections on these aspects of the Spiritual Path using Sangharakshita’s poem ‘Advent’; the contemplation of impermanence, death and our lack of any ‘self-lordship’; Lahiji’s vision of ‘the black light’; bewilderment; and the concept of becoming reborn in the Bodhisattva.

Talk given at Padmaloka Buddhist Centre, 2013, as part of a series of three talks entitled The Stages of the Path.
