Careful Study (Dharmabytes Podcast)

From Free Buddhist Audio on Thu, 11 Jul, 2024 - 16:48

A lovely, thoughtful exploration of the traditional Buddhist path of ethics, meditation and wisdom, using poetry and the ideas of contemporary science to evoke the mystery that lies at the heart of practice. Dhammadassin’s beautifully weighted talk challenges us to look at how we think and how we act, and is rooted in a moving fidelity to experience as the ground of our inspiration. One to be treasured!

7 Point Mind Training - My Favourite Slogan - 3 Short Talks

From Sheffield Buddhist Centre on Wed, 10 Jul, 2024 - 00:00
This week at Sangha Night we heard from Paranita, Janet and Kai on their favourite mind training slogan. The Seven Point Mind Training teaches us that we can change adverse conditions into the path to Enlightenment by compassion and wisdom. This week we will have three short talks from Janet, Kai and Paranita about the Mind Training slogan that means the most to them. How would we act in every ordinary moment if we were Enlightened? How can we act to be more Enlightened? In this series we will be exploring a powerful, pithy teaching that tells us how to do just that.

Social Media - pausing...

From Akashavana on Tue, 9 Jul, 2024 - 14:35

The name Akashavana means forest retreat of luminous space. The community here aspire to preserve and protect this place of retreat in the spirit of going forth into simplicity and freedom.

We have agreed not to post anything onto Facebook or Instagram for the time being. This decision was initially inspired by the action of Amsterdam Buddhist Centre’s to remove their presence from social media. Our hope is that by consciously deciding to take a similar action we will open up the...

The Fragility of Life (Dharmabytes Podcast)

From Free Buddhist Audio on Mon, 8 Jul, 2024 - 12:21

This introductory talk by Dhammadinna is an ideal entry point to the world of the mind-turnings. Seen as foundations for the building of practice, the reflections encourage us to make life meaningful in the face of a relentlessly ungovernable reality. A strong look in the mirror of the heart. Excerpted from the talk The Four Mind-Turning Reflections, part of the series of the same title, given at Tiratanaloka...

Bristol Buddhist Centre looking for Women's Mitra Convenor

From Jobs, Volunteering & Communities on Sun, 7 Jul, 2024 - 22:56

The Bristol Buddhist Centre is looking for a Women’s Mitra Convenor.  At the last count, we have 46 active women mitras, 34 of whom have asked for ordination.  It’s a lively and engaged women’s sangha, with an increasing number of young women involved.

There are 20 Dharmacharinis in and around the Bristol Centre, 6 of whom are actively involved in a Women’s Mitra Convening Kula.  You would work to and within that kula.  You would also be part of a supportive and...
