Map Of Wymondham Campus

From Combined Order Convention 2016 on Tue, 19 Jul, 2016 - 20:00

Here are some different versions of the Wymondham College campus, to help you find your way around during the Convention!

The three files are all large enough for general viewing on a laptop or other mobile device and should all be easy to use - the small/medium/large versions are to do with how hi-definition they are and therefore how much data it will take to download them. We’re not sure how good the mobile connection will be at Wymondham so...

Nothing more to say .....

From Coogee Buddhist Group on Tue, 19 Jul, 2016 - 05:53

Okay, so there were all these things I was thinking about saying in this week’s email
out …

Grant’s invocation to heed Pema Chodron’s advice that challenges in life don’t disappear until we learn the lesson they are there to teach us …..

And Asanka’s article about the various expressions of metta (karuna, mudita and upeksa) likened to a mother’s love for her child changing as he / she grows …..

Metta - mother’s unconditional love

Not necessarily so

From Coogee Buddhist Group on Tue, 12 Jul, 2016 - 09:57

When Shunryu Suzuki, one of the most famous contemporary Zen teachers was asked his philosophy he used just three words …. ‘Not necessarily so’

In saying this he encapsulated the core teaching on offer for meditators that one should hold everything gently and leave space around even the most seemingly obvious truths.

Life is always much more layered and subtle than we are able to see and by consciously acknowledging that we don’t have things all figured out...

Viveka - Mindfulness and the Creative Disruption of Bias

From San Francisco Buddhist Center on Sun, 10 Jul, 2016 - 23:11

Viveka exploring the theme of racism from the perspective of the Dharma and what the Buddha had to say about complex conditionality. A timely look at understanding - and ultimately undoing - the patterns that lead to prejudice and bias, of all kinds.

Specifically, this talk investigates:

  • Opening to the inter-personal, organizational, and societal conditioning that perpetuates racial bias.
  • Understanding ‘implicit bias’, which is how thoughts, feelings, emotions, and actions are influenced (largely unconsciously) by exposure to stereotypes and fears about targeted social groups.

Community Morning - Keeping Things in Perspective

From Portsmouth Buddhist Center on Wed, 6 Jul, 2016 - 16:49

The world isn’t always a garden of delights, life isn’t always a holiday. We know this, right? Yet it’s so hard sometimes to remember it - and harder still to stay positive when we do! That’s where we need an active element of imagination in our meditation and Dharma practice. Remembering, imagining, perceiving things differently - and a whole world opens up…

This week as part of our ongoing series on practical imagination, we’ll be exploring the practice of ...
