Vaddhaka and Vajratara will be running this retreat next year at Adhisthana. It is a really good opportunity to get to grips with the teaching of Dr Ambedkar and his relevance to the modern world and why supporting the Indian Ordination process is of relevance not just to Indian Buddhism, but to world Buddhism and modern global society! Here is a bit about them: There are at present only 3 full-time workers in the team: Tarahridaya and Vijaya, as well as Karunamaya who is not in the picture. There is also Jnanasuri who does a great deal at...

Spread Buddhism. Serve Mankind.

By vajratara on Mon, 7 Apr, 2014 - 19:04‘Time has come, what is wanted is will. If the countries which are Buddhist can develop the will to spread Buddhism the task of spreading Buddhism will not be difficult. They must realize that the duty of a Buddhist is not merely to be a good Buddhist, his duty is to spread Buddhism. They must believe that to spread Buddhism is to serve mankind.’

Trustee's Meeting for the IDT

By vajratara on Mon, 7 Apr, 2014 - 18:44We have just had a fantastic trustee’s meeting. Headlines:
☞ Subhuti has recently returned from a visit to India where he has been deepening Dhamma practice in the Order thereby broadening out the base from which more Order support can be given to more mitras.
☞ The Ordination teams in India have been busy running regular events where the teams support both local and outlying mitras - sometimes journeying great distances to do so - as well as ongoing mitra...

Well done Sanghamani!

By vajratara on Sat, 29 Mar, 2014 - 17:05Big Saddhu to Sanghamani who has raised an extra £8,500 in annual income for IDT through her three month telephone upgrade campaign. About 100 donors increased their monthly gift - half of all those she asked. That generosity will go a long way in helping the Dhamma revolution in India.

Women & Men's Ordination Teams in India: is there a difference?

By vajratara on Sat, 29 Mar, 2014 - 15:48A number of our donors have asked us why the Women’s Ordination Team is smaller than the Men’s. A good question which demands a considered response which Subhuti has provided…

India today is in a process of astonishing social transformation across a wide spectrum of developmental stages: a few tribal people in the Andoman Islands still live more or less in the Stone Age and quite a number in the big ‘Metros’, like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, or Chennai, are...

A Dhamma revolutionary wedding in India

By Munisha on Wed, 19 Mar, 2014 - 00:20Shakyajata writes: “Dr B.R. Ambedkar, the great leader of the ‘outcaste’ (or ‘Dalit’) people of India, recommended in many of his writings a very specific way to put an end to the ‘hell of caste’ from which so many people still suffer in modern India. This ‘infallible’ method, he said, was exogamy: inter-caste marriage.

On 13th February, a Triratna marriage took place in India which was inter-cultural, even inter-racial, as well as inter-caste.

Tarun and Daya had...
