By Candradasa on Thu, 3 Sep, 2015 - 11:14

Words and their meanings, the transformative effect of literature in a life, writing as a gateway to spiritual insight - these are just some of the topics covered as we hear from someone whose passion for literary work is both inspiring...

A lovely video from the Sangharakshita Library at Adhisthana in Herefordshire, England, where Kalyanaprabha and Vidyadevi - the editors of Sangharakshita’s Complete Works - speak about the project and their own heart connection to this great gathering of Buddhist Dharma to mark Urgyen Sangharakshita’s 90th birthday.

Help make the Complete Works happen!

By Candradasa on Thu, 30 Jul, 2015 - 20:21

For the past couple of months, Saddhanandi has been conducting a very personal set of interviews with Bhante, looking back on his long life through the lens, as it were, of a set of objects he has chosen to represent each of his nine decades. They are quite fascinating conversations - I’m halfway through editing them and have already heard a number of surprising new things about Bhante and his early days as a Buddhist!

Amalavajra reports from the fundraiser's desk

By Munisha on Wed, 29 Jul, 2015 - 13:47

Written a few thousand pounds back (when we were 50% there), this is a great Triratna News report on the fundraising for Bhante’s birthday present. Amalavajra, Triratna’s fundraiser in Europe, explains his enthusiasm.

https://thebuddhistcentre.com/news/sangharakshita90-appeal-halfway-there

PS Today we’re 58% there! We still need another £41,000 and we’ve got just 28 days to raise it. That’s £1464 per day.

But that shouldn’t be hard. Yesterday we raised more than that!

With 30 days to go until Bhante’s 90th birthday we’re well over halfway to raising the money for the one birthday present he really wants – the publication of his Complete Works, for everyone, forever. (We’ve got 30 days to raise the remaining £45,000! Can you help?)

Meanwhile, we bring you news of his latest book, soon to be published by Windhorse Publications. Kalyanaprabha is Bhante’s editor. She writes:

How has Sangharakshita's life changed yours?

By akasajoti on Sat, 11 Jul, 2015 - 15:25

Four young women from Adhisthana’s DharmaLife course - which finished yesterday - talk to Amalavajra about how their lives have been changed by Sangharakshita’s life and writings.

Bhante’s 90th birthday present will be the collation, editing and publication (paper and digital) of everything that he has ever written. This is an enormous project that will need five years work and £100,000 (including some translations from English).

Without it, the scattered share of Bhante’s writings that is currently available will simply become harder to come by and explore in full.

Bhante’s...

Sangharakshita’s 90th’s birthday wish is that his legacy of written Dharma be secure and continue to reach people all over the world.

But half his writings are out of print and unavailable, search through his entire oeuvre is impossible (even digitally), and most are only available in English.

Our gift will be to publish Bhante’s collected works for the first time, including unpublished or ‘lost’ material, new prefaces and endnotes and a comprehensive index for easy exploration – all verified by Bhante...
