Fifty Years, Fifty Voices Exhibition Goes up at Adhisthana

By Satyalila on Tue, 14 Aug, 2018 - 10:29

It was great - and fitting! - to have Ananda’s help in putting up the Fifty Years, Fifty Voices exhibition in the Adhisthana library just after the Blake retreat last month.  Here he is hanging a photo we’ve used of the first ordinations in 1968 - tho’ unfortunately he’s not actually in that image himself.  Huge thanks to Dhammarati for fitting in the design work on this - and doing such a fab job, as ever - amidst his myriad other tasks

The exhibition is...

Sangharakshita's diary

By Munisha on Wed, 9 Aug, 2017 - 09:57

Sthanashraddha is Bhante’secretary. He writes from Adhisthana, UK:

“Finally, after many weeks of dry and often sunny weather, the grounds and gardens have been treated in the last couple of weeks to downpours of rain, misty drizzle and long gentle overnight soakings. The rock-hard lumps of clay earth are softening again. We’ve also seen this month second broods of moorhens hatching - tiny, little, black golfball-sized fluff, chirruping and calling for their mothers.

Bhante’s month has been...

New book by Sangharakshita: Metaphors, Magic and Mystery

By Munisha on Fri, 6 Feb, 2015 - 12:43Sangharakshita’s latest book, Metaphors, Magic and Mystery, is now available from Windhorse Publications.Timed to celebrate the opening of Adhisthana’s Sangharakshita Library last month, it’s an anthology on the theme of words.

The book’s editor, Vidyadevi, writes: “It was through reading that Sangharakshita first realised that he was a Buddhist. He has had a great deal to say about words, as this collection shows. For very clear advice on how to approach all the reading opportunities that Dharma...

The Opening of The Sangharakshita Library

By akasajoti on Thu, 8 Jan, 2015 - 15:40Right at the heart of Adhisthana is the Sangharakshita Library – a collection of books and artefacts collected by Bhante over his lifetime, plus a wealth of letters, papers, photos and images connected with him and his life. One of the most important roles of Adhisthana will be caring for this precious legacy. It will be a way of future generations having a tangible connection with the founder of our sangha, and getting a sense of him and his life’s...

The Sangharakshita Library: books on shelves!

By Munisha on Sun, 26 Oct, 2014 - 00:50Sangharakshita recently visited his new library at Adhisthana, as his 11,000 books appeared on the shelves at last.

Vidyadevi is one of Bhante’s editors. She writes:

“Thanks to the building and decorating efforts of Yashodeva,...

By Munisha on Fri, 1 Aug, 2014 - 17:19Adhisthana is one year old this weekend!

To mark the first anniversary of the opening weekend, we present a picture show: Adhisthana at high summer.

Amid Herefordshire’s wonderful landscape, the Sangharakshita Memorial Library is gradually taking shape. The building will eventually house Bhante’s library and an exhibition space.

The old central arched portion of the library roof - translucent and leaky, patched with mastic, shaded with adjustable louvres which didn’t work - has now been...
