Triratna reports from the European Buddhist Union meeting 2020

By Munisha on Fri, 25 Sep, 2020 - 10:16

As usual on the last weekend of September, the European Buddhist Union is holding its annual meeting - at Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa in Tuscany, Italy. Sadly most of the roughly 40 participants from many traditions all across Europe are on Zoom this time, for obvious reasons (and your trusty Liaison Officer, Munisha, is sitting in a little hut in Sweden.)

The morning has begun with a presentation from the hosts and the local mayor, followed by the...

'The Great Get Together' in Exeter

By mokshini on Mon, 19 Jun, 2017 - 07:53

Over the weekend of 16-18 June over a 100,000 events took place all over the UK in the name of ‘The Great Get Together’ - to mark the anniversary of the murder of Labour member of parliament Jo Cox who was known as a defender of immigration and killed for her beliefs. This quote from her first speech to Parliament summed up what the Great Get Together was about

We are far more united and have far more in common that what divides us

June is Buddhist Action Month!

By Munisha on Thu, 27 Apr, 2017 - 14:50

Buddhist Action Month is only a month away! For 2017 the theme of this festival of Buddhist social action is ‘Connecting for Change’ - seeking to address the seemingly increasing polarisation, disharmony and divergence within many societies.

Having started in 2012 as an initiative of the UK’s Network of Buddhist Organisations BAM is now in its fifth year and increasingly international and pan-Buddhist.

Of course the Triratna Buddhist Community is dedicated to the Bodhisattva Ideal all year round, but...

For UK BAM champs - 'The Great Get Together' - street party anyone?

By mokshini on Wed, 12 Apr, 2017 - 15:47

I admit I love the title of the event - “The Great Get Together” - who wouldn’t want to join in! - Especially as it is in honour of Jo Cox this year, who, as it says below, “believed that we have more in common than divides us” - well that sums us up too, I should think. Here is the info from the website:

European Buddhist Union calls for compassion for refugees

By Munisha on Mon, 28 Sep, 2015 - 13:42

Last weekend I represented Triratna at the 40th Annual General Meeting of the European Buddhist Union. at the Rigpa Centre in Berlin.

At the particular request of Hungarian and Austrian Buddhists, a subgroup including me drafted a statement to be published in the name of the EBU: ‘A compassionate response to the European refugee crisis’.

“[We] call upon the governments and peoples of all European countries to show compassion and generosity to those displaced through war and seeking a refuge in Europe, safe from violence.

“As...

A Buddhist contribution to the European refugee crisis

By Munisha on Thu, 10 Sep, 2015 - 16:21

As the refugee crisis continues in Europe, many people have been moved to action this week.

In Sweden, members of the Triratna Buddhist Order joined a Stockholm demonstration in support of refugees arriving in Sweden. In Manchester and London, UK, Order members Amitasuri and Ambaravajri collected clothing, which they drove to the refugee camp at Calais, northern France, in Amitasuri’s van.

Amitasuri says: “ We made it easy to give. People flexed their compassion muscles.

I put out a message on my Facebook page for people...
