I admit I love the title of the event - “The Great Get Together” - who wouldn’t want to join in! - Especially as it is in honour of Jo Cox this year, who, as it says below, “believed that we have more in common than divides us” - well that sums us up too, I should think. Here is the info from the website:

UK Refugee Week (19-25 June ) is supporting the Great Get Together, a national celebration in honour of Jo Cox MP on the weekend of 17 and 18 June 2017, that aims to be the biggest display of national unity since the Jubilee parties.

Jo was a champion of refugee rights and believed that we have more in common than divides us. The Great Get Together is an invitation to celebrate this by holding a gathering in your local community – this could be a street party, a game of football, a barbeque or an afternoon tea.

Brendan Cox, Jo’s husband, said:

“I am delighted that Refugee Week is partnering with The Great Get Together to make the weekend of 17 and 18 June a celebration of all we have in common in this country.

“The cause of refugees was close to Jo’s heart and the fact that we will be marking the first anniversary of her death just as Refugee Week 2017 begins brings added poignancy to events…. “
If you are organising a Refugee Week event on 17 or 18 June, the invitation is to get involved by making your event part of the Great Get Together.
