Sutra Sundays

By viriyalila on Sun, 28 Dec, 2014 - 17:53Each of these micro-retreats will focus on a particular sutta or sutra. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with teachings from the Buddha and his disciples throughout history. A great way to explore the richness of the Buddhist tradition and come away with practical advice to vitalize one’s own practice.

Introduction to Meditation: Two January Workshops

By viriyalila on Sun, 28 Dec, 2014 - 15:37We have two opportunities to learn traditional Buddhist meditations this month. These meditations lead to greater calmness and sensitivity, deeper levels of relaxation, transform negative emotions into positive ones, and help keep all things in perspective. These meditations are suitable for all levels of experience and one does not need to be a Buddhist to practice these.

Thursdays, January 8-29, 7-9 pm - Four Week Meditation Course
In this four-week course you will be introduced to the practice of...

ACT for stillness

By Bodhidasa on Mon, 22 Dec, 2014 - 21:49The Active Compassion Team (ACT) held its first public spaces meditation session last Friday at the busy Newtown Train Station concourse.

Inspired by the actions of members of the Cambridge Buddhist Centre and a general sense of taking the Dharma into the world, the team intends to hold regular public meditations and invite those so interested to join in. There are further plans to expand the team’s activities into more diverse areas such as assisting with food banks...

Happy 10th birthday, Akashavana!

By Munisha on Mon, 22 Dec, 2014 - 17:10In September 2004, Triratna (then the FWBO) became the proud owners of two ruined farmhouses, high in the mountains of Teruel, Spain.

Resident community members Acalavajri and Manigarbha write: “Ten years later, they are home to a thriving community and a remote and beautiful retreat centre: Akashavana, the ‘forest retreat of luminous space’. Primarily for the ordination of women, it also provides an amazing retreat experience for Dharmacharinis.

Over 140 women have had their public ordinations in...

Mindfulness All Flavours! Week 4: Breadth And Focus

By Candradasa on Mon, 15 Dec, 2014 - 21:08Here we are in our final week of the current session of online meditation! Over the past month of the Tuesday course we’ve explored sati, sampajanna, and appamada as different flavours of mindfulness - or as complementary camera angles of reflection on the practice, if you like. This time we’re going to look at how to hold all three aspects using an awareness of breadth and focus in our meditation. And as usual we’ll be doing this in the context...

Mindfulness All Flavours! Week 3: Appamada

By Candradasa on Mon, 8 Dec, 2014 - 17:56Join us for our third flavour of mindfulness in our continued look at how to sustain the kind of attention we bring to bear in meditation.

On Tuesdays our course for regular meditators is looking at mindfulness (sati, sampajanna, appamada, call-it-what-you-will!) in the context of the Five Spiritual Faculties. This will also give us a chance to explore the area of ‘breadth and focus’ in meditation, as well as generally develop and maybe even flex the great...

#EthicalChristmas: Wildmind - The Accidental Publisher

By bodhipaksa on Sat, 6 Dec, 2014 - 15:49Wildmind stumbled into publishing back in 2002, and has now brought out eight guided meditation CDs, with plans to publish a number of books.

Wildmind’s foray into publishing started because many meditation students requested that the guided meditations Bodhipaksa recorded for his online courses be offered in CD format as well. Bodhipaksa used the services of a local recording studio in order to record the mindfulness of breathing, development of lovingkindness, and walking meditation practices...

#EthicalChristmas: Wildmind - The Evolution of Dana-Based Online Teaching

By bodhipaksa on Fri, 5 Dec, 2014 - 16:54There’s been a rapid evolution of how Wildmind runs online courses. For years we held online courses with anything from half a dozen to 20 participants. Then we decided to start 2013 with a more public 100 Day Meditation Challenge, followed by another 100 days exploring the four Brahmaviharas. For these events I wrote a daily (or almost daily) article on Wildmind’s blog, accompanied by guided meditations.

When Mark joined the team, we...

#EthicalChristmas: Wildmind - An Online Meditation Center, And More!

By Centre Team on Thu, 4 Dec, 2014 - 15:01Wildmind is an online meditation center, a blog, an online meditation supplies store, and a publisher of guided meditation CDs.

These varied activities are run by a small team of three people working from an office in a former cotton mill on the Lamprey River in Newmarket, New Hampshire, just down the road from Aryaloka Buddhist Center.

As an online meditation center, Wildmind has a global, reach. In the past twelve...
