UK government consultation on mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse

In response to a recommendation from the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) the UK Government has accepted the need for a new law to make it mandatory for certain people to report child sexual abuse.

They are now consulting as to to whom this duty should apply and in what circumstances. Responses are welcome from any individual or organisation.

Following October’s release of a report on failures in preventing addressing child sexual abuse in the Anglican Church in England and Wales, November saw the publication of a 123-page report on similar failures in the Catholic Church in England and Wales.

NB: ‘Child sexual abuse’ includes the ‘non-contact’ offences of viewing, possessing or producing indecent images of children.
