Triratna model ethical guidelines

By Munisha on Mon, 12 Sep, 2016 - 21:13

Updated March 8th 2017 to add a translation into French.

Here are the model ethical guidelines for Triratna centres and enterprises worldwide, which were presented at the International Council and European Chairs’ Assembly in August and September.

As ‘model’ documents, they are a suggested form of words which may be adopted just as they are, adapted or translated into other languages.

They have been published along with the latest version of Triratna’s model documents for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.

A rich, full week at the European Chairs' Assembly

By Munisha on Sun, 4 Sep, 2016 - 17:42

Triratna’s European Chairs’ Assembly (ECA) and their guests have been meeting at Adhisthana since last Monday. They have spent the week creatively and very harmoniously, considering a number of matters to do with the future flourishing of Triratna.

Today we heard about the forthcoming publication of the first volume of Sangharakshita’s Complete Works – in English. Considering that just 5% of the world’s 70 million people are native English-speakers, we also heard of the work of the new,...

Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults 2016

By Munisha on Sat, 3 Sep, 2016 - 22:22

Ensuring the sexual, physical and psychological safety of young people and vulnerable adults is an expression of the First Precept: avoiding causing harm; cultivating loving kindness.

Mindful of their responsibilities in this area, over the last four years the European Chairs’ Assembly (ECA) has been developing its model policies for the protection of children and ‘vulnerable adults’, sent to every Triratna Centre and enterprise in Europe, and also shared with Triratna Centres around the world.

The 2016 versions were presented to the meeting of Triratna’s International Council in August and the...

Day five at the International Council 2016

By Munisha on Sat, 6 Aug, 2016 - 23:10

International Council members woke today to the best kind of lush, golden Herefordshire summer morning: pigeons cooing; deep green oak trees in full leaf.

The day was devoted to the theme of conflict resolution and related matters. Dhammarati presented the document “What is a Triratna Buddhist Centre?” As the result of the Council’s first-ever worldwide consultation, this is a landmark.

Saddhaloka introduced new draft model ethical guidelines for the Order and Munisha introduced the latest version of the model ‘Safeguarding’ documents regarding the protection...

Triratna: safeguarding children and vulnerable adults

By Munisha on Fri, 15 Apr, 2016 - 23:26

“Ensuring the sexual, physical and psychological safety of young people and vulnerable adults involved in the activities of Triratna Buddhist Centres and other enterprises is an expression of the First Precept: the principle of non-harming, or love.”

So opens Triratna’s ‘Child protection general advice’ document for centres and enterprises in Europe, the introduction to a set of model policies developed over the last three years to help Triratna’s European Chairs meet their ethical and legal responsibilities to safeguard children and ‘vulnerable adults’.

Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults 2015

By Munisha on Thu, 15 Oct, 2015 - 09:26

*Post updated 14th April 2016*

Ensuring the sexual, physical and psychological safety of young people and vulnerable adults is an expression of the first of the Five Precepts: avoiding causing harm; cultivating loving kindness.

Mindful of their responsibilities in this area, Triratna’s European Chairs’ Assembly recently issued a set of model child protection policies, sent to every Triratna Centre and enterprise in Europe, and also shared with Triratna Centres around the world.

Every Triratna Centre is legally independent, responsible for its own policies. Therefore, these model policies may be adapted...

Triratna Child Protection UK - for all Order members and mitras

By Munisha on Thu, 9 Jan, 2014 - 10:07

This is an updated version of this important document.

In brief:
All UK mitras and members of the Triratna Buddhist Order working with schools and other young people under 18 should either make sure they are DBS (security) checked by the Triratna Buddhist Centre they represent, or by their nearest Triratna Buddhist Centre, or make sure the school knows they are not DBS checked and that they require never to be left alone with a...
