Survey: calling Buddhist chaplains in north America!

By Munisha on Thu, 10 Dec, 2020 - 12:58

The Mapping Buddhist Chaplains in North America Research Survey attempts to answer fundamental questions about Buddhist chaplaincy as a professional field. While several universities have been training and graduating Buddhist chaplains—some for more than a decade—there are no clear data on how many and where Buddhist chaplains are currently working.

If you work, volunteer, or are training for any chaplaincy setting (health care, higher ed, corrections, military—or any other sector) and you self-identify as Buddhist, please complete this survey about your work...

It’s 50 years since San Francisco’s ‘Summer of Love’, and with Buddhist Action Month in full swing across many countries, it’s a great moment to celebrate American Order member Vimalamoksha and his Tiny Homes Project, making innovative small wooden mobile homes for those living on the streets of San Francisco. Karunadevi in conversation with Nagabodhi

By Saccanama on Mon, 28 Dec, 2015 - 11:08

Karunadevi talks about her involvement in Triratna in the very early days of the Movement in the USA. Karunadevi established Triratna in the Bay Area of Califronia and, along with Saramati, was the first American to be ordained in the USA. She is also currently the only public preceptor living in the USA.

Nagabodhi has worked with her over many years in his role as a public preceptor for the men in the USA.

From 1st to 5th June, 11 members of the Triratna Buddhist Order attended the Dharma Teacher Gathering 2015 in Rhinebeck, New York State, USA, where racism, diversity, climate change and secular mindfulness were key themes. This article is compiled from reports by Vidyamala and Viradhamma.

Viveka, Amala, Sunada, Candradasa, Kamalashila, Vimalasara, Bodhipaksa, Parami, Viradhamma, Vidyamala and Singhashri were among 180 or so western Buddhist teachers from Europe, Canada and the USA from a wide range of traditions. These included a number...

New article by Gaziano and Lewis on vegetarianism

By Dhivan Thomas Jones on Thu, 12 Dec, 2013 - 17:36I am very pleased to announce that I’ve uploaded a new article in the Western Buddhist Review. Joe Gaziano and Jacquie Lewis are Buddhists in a vipassanā tradition in the US. Their article explores the topic of Buddhism and vegetarianism in their home country, where many Buddhists appear not to translate the Buddha’s teaching on non-harming into a commitment to a vegetarian diet. I welcome their thoughtful yet principled discussion, based on their desire to inspire fellow Buddhists to...
