Ananda - Recollections of Bhante

By Sadayasihi on Mon, 15 Apr, 2019 - 12:22

“So my impression of Bhante was that he was a magician who had some secrets that I wanted to get…

Ananda was ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order (then the Western Buddhist Order) on the 7th April 1968, which makes him the most long-standing member of our Order.

In this full and frank conversation with Satyalila, Ananda speaks about his own spiritual journey in the Triratna Buddhist Order and his relationship with Bhante, Urgyen Sangharakshita, the founder of that Order.

From his first impressions of...

The Three Jewels meet the Climate Emergency

By Sadayasihi on Mon, 11 Feb, 2019 - 16:05

In December the Bristol Buddhist Centre hosted a practice morning on the theme ‘The Three Jewels Meet the Climate Emergency’. The event offered a space for the Sangha to come together to explore thoughts and feelings around the climate emergency, how Dharma practice helps with facing the reality of the situation, and what ‘taking action’ might look like in this context. This was followed by an action outside Barclays bank in the afternoon with meditation, leafletting and singing ‘climate carols.’

Exeter Sangha outing to the Bristol Buddhist Centre to celebrate Triratna's 50th

By mokshini on Tue, 11 Apr, 2017 - 09:11

A group of us from Exeter and Devon travelled up to the Bristol Buddhist Centre on Saturday 8th April to join in with their celebrations. It was a lovely day and I personally really enjoyed being warmly welcomed by a larger sangha

As part of the day we listened to four short talks on one of Sangharakshita’s poems, Four Gifts:

I come to you with four gifts.

The first gift is a lotus flower.

Do you understand?

My second gift is a golden net.

Can you recognise it?

My third gift is a shepherd’s round dance.

Do your...

Come along! Celebrating 50 years of the Triratna Buddhist Community

By mokshini on Fri, 10 Mar, 2017 - 18:02

Join Mokshini, Karunadarshin, Sudhana, Nandavajra and others from the Devon Sangha to travel to the Bristol Buddhist Centre for the day to mark “50 years of the Triratna Buddhist Community”! It would be lovely if there was a whole group of us from Exeter going up. The plan is to all go on a train together on the 8.23am from Exeter St David’s to Bristol Temple Meads, and return in the evening on the 18.44pm departure from Temple Meads.

It would be helpful if...

Join the Team at Bristol Buddhist Centre

By jvalamalini on Sat, 14 Jan, 2017 - 18:56

Bristol Buddhist Centre is thriving and our sangha is growing. We’re looking for a member of the Triratna Buddhist Order to join the Centre Team to share the responsibility for facilitating

  • Communication of Sangharakshita’s vision including the tools of transformation
  • A flow of kalyana mitrata to build community and deepen commitment and Sangha

This would involve working with the existing team on our evolving ethos and culture of generosity, including working with volunteers as mentor and kalyana mitra to give them more sangha involvement and opportunity of Dharma service,...

Nourish the Sangha, Change Lives, Influence the World

By jvalamalini on Mon, 30 Nov, 2015 - 13:21

Would you give £50 a month?

Bristol Buddhist Centre runs on generosity.

In 2015 we stopped making charges for classes, courses, and Sangha activities, and invited all of us to keep them happening by giving money and energy.

We responded generously – our regular monthly donations have almost doubled.  Thank you to everyone who has given, on behalf of everyone who has been through our doors this year to contact the Buddha-Dharma as expressed in our Sangha!

And there’s further...
