By Munisha on Fri, 16 Jun, 2017 - 23:44

Clear Vision’s latest NewsByte video reports on some of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the founding of Triratna (as the FWBO) on 8th April 1967.

We visit the joint northern English centres’ celebration at Sheffield Buddhist Centre, the events at Adhisthana and Dhanakosa (UK) and the mainland European celebrations held at Essen (Germany). We hear about the culture and zeitgeist of Britain in the late 1960s, in which the FWBO and WBO were created. And we hear from...

Realisation of Metta

By akasajoti on Wed, 14 Jun, 2017 - 14:54

True wisdom never rests in itself very long, there is always this movement towards suffering through compassion.

Saddhaloka’s presentation on Metta and Wisdom, where he spoke of the unity of the dual aspects of the path – samata and vipassana, wisdom and compassion, merit and insight – and described how they are really a part of a single process, with reference to some stories of the Buddha’s life and the teachings of Atisha on sunyatakarunagarbha.

The third presentation on the Blazing in the Fires of Sunyata retreat, held at Adhisthana in 2017, on the theme of Metta and Bodhicitta.

Parami presented Hri and Apatrapya, the two Lokapalas, unfolding a single line in the Karaniya Metta Sutta: “One should not pursue the slightest thing for which other wise men might censure them.

Both Hri and Apatrapya express a positive sense of remorse and regret, one in relation to our own inner ethical sensitivity, the other in relation to the...

The Ethical Foundations of Metta: Blazing in the Fires of Sunyata

By akasajoti on Sun, 11 Jun, 2017 - 17:43

The second presentation on the Blazing in the Fires of Sunyata retreat, held at Adhisthana in 2017, on the theme of Metta and Bodhicitta.

Dhammarati takes us through the ethical foundations of Metta expressed in the Karaniya Metta Sutta, drawing out their relationship with attha, or ‘the good’. Following a quote from James Hillman:

Purpose in our lives doesn’t usually appear as a clearly framed goal, it appears more likely as a troubling unclear urge coupled with a sense of dutiful importance. This sense...

What is Metta?: Blazing in the Fires of Sunyata

By akasajoti on Sun, 11 Jun, 2017 - 08:10

The one who abides in love, and puts their faith in the teaching of the Buddha, will win through to the state of calm and blissful release.

The first presentation on the Blazing in the Fires of Sunyata retreat, held at Adhisthana in 2017, on the theme of Metta and Bodhicitta.

Saccanama evokes Metta through a variety of canonical and poetic sources, referring to the seminars which Bhante led on the Karaniya Metta Sutta, edited in Living with Kindness, as well as various suttas...
